No reason, just got looking at all the crests of current and future teams and found some pretty sweet and some pretty awful. For me top 5 in no particular order (other than alphabetical): Atlanta DC LAFC Minnesota NYCFC (Honorable mention to Miami) Bottom 5 (also no particular order): Houston New England NY Red Bulls Austin Nashville (Dishonorable mention to Dallas) Change my mind.
My favs: Timbers Galaxy LAFC Vancouver Atlanta Bottom: New England NY Red Bulls Nashville Cinci I rather like Austin's crest resembling the treaty oak. Very Austin thing to do imo.
MLS has a history of horrible team crests, New England, Colorado, Dallas. But Miami has taken it to a new level. (Not the Fusion, but the new Miami team.) Somehow they have managed to subliminally use a woman's reproductive organs to create a soccer crest. The shape of the two storks back to back create the shape of the whole system. Fallopian tubes, uterus, everything. Then they managed to merge a crescent moon with a rising sun in the center of it all. (Which in a way looks like a baby's head getting ready for birth.) The whole thing is quite pagan when you step back and look at it. Top 5 crests IMO: NYCFC Columbus Houston RSL Montreal
I always hated the Revs crest, but in the last year or so, with all the roundish, generic logos that have come out, it starts to become more unique. still awful, but at least it has character compared to some of the others. top crests (no order): fire minnesota timbers toronto whitecaps dallas atlanta worst crests (no order) sporting new england Cincinnati galaxy additional opinions: - the crew's old logo was better than their new one. it was unique. cheesy, but unique. - dc's updated logo is a downgrade. - austin's crest is a wonderful design. hate the team (owner), love the look. - houston only get's some extra points because it seems a lot of youth teams are able to copy it and put in their own team name. it is a "useful" design, if nothing else. - not sold on nashville yet. love the idea of a unique shape within the mls, but it is still a bit bland.
And I thought it was just that one stadium rendering...now I will never be able to unsee this either. Thanks.
I like the Revs logo. Nice to still have a link to the 90s design philosophy rather than the more "proper" soccer crests always being standard issue nowadays.
Top 5 (no order) - Columbus Crew - Portland Timbers - Minnesota United - Real Salt Lake - NYCFC *** Sacramento Republic*** (I hope they make ZERO changes when they are announced as the next MLS club. Love the crest. Love the name. Easily one of the best crests and names.) Worst 5 (No order) - Houston Dynamo - FC Dallas - San Jose Earthquakes - Sporting KC - NE Revs
I was excited several years ago when this logo appeared. Not sure why it wasn't adopted, I thought it was pretty sweet.
I think by FAR Minnesota has the best crest and I don't think it is even close. I have seriously considered buying their merch just for their crest/logo. Top 5 in my preferred order (including expansion teams with released crests): Minnesota LAFC Miami Vancouver Chicago Bottom 5 Nashville (just terrible. Looks like a road warning sign) NER FC Cincinnati (looks like a gas station sign) Houston LAG Top 5 was much harder for me. There are not many MLS crests I consider good.
Ooooh, I don't know. I think I prefer the old one and that's saying something since I put it in my bottom five.
Top five (no order): Toronto SKC NYC Minnesota Montreal Honorable mentions: Portland (Put the word "Portland" on it somewhere and you're at the top) Bottom five (again, no order) New England Chicago Dallas NYRB Houston Dishonorable Mention: Atlanta's King Peach badge (matches the trim) instead of using the same badge as on the home shirt. But colors matter to me almost as much as the badge itself. If my Atlanta United wore blue instead of red, we'd have the best looking badge in MLS, IMO. A kit can make a badge as well. I'd love AUFC to have chosen all white at home with our current badge.
Top Five: Minnesota Chicago LAFC NYCFC Atlanta Bottom Five: New England - It's not unique, it's a sign the club is still in MLS 1.0 Nashville - Ugliest logo in all of major league sports Austin - Not feeling it, you want a weird good looking tree on your crest look to the Oakland Roots DCU - Huge downgrade Cincinnati - USL crest was head and shoulders better and even that sucked - New Crew crest is way better than the old cheesy one. - Love the Miami crest - Portland's looks stupid without the name on it but RSL looks good with just RSL on it.
Best. 1. Minnesota 2. Vancouver 3. Portland 4. Miami 5. Nashville (sorry, not sorry). Worst: 1. New England (and I say this as someone who loves 90s kitsch) 2. Kanas City (A mess) 3. Cinci (just boring) 4. SJ (It's like they just couldn't put a full idea together) 5. Montreal (Just weirdly proportioned and asymmetrical for no reason)
Top 5: 1. Chicago Fire 2. Columbus Crew 3. DC United 4. Austin FC 5. FC Dallas Bottom 5: 1. New England Revolution 2. LAFC 3. New York Red Bulls 4. Seattle Sounders 5. Nashville SC
Best: 1. Inter Miami 2. FC Cincinnati 3. LAFC 4. Columbus Crew 5. Philadelphia Union Worst: 1. Chicago Fire 2. FC Dallas 3. RBNY 4. Seattle Sounders 5. Sporting KC
Well say goodbye to one of the consistently considered better MLS logos and say welcome to this. hahahahaahahah I understand not everyone will ever be pleased with a logo, but this is bad...just really bad.
Eh, the leak has been out there for a week and a half and I've gotten used to it. It's grown on me, even. And I don't have to look like I'm playing dress up firefighter when I wear my team gear out in public.
Well if you think a fireman inspired logo on a soccer jersey equates to "playing dress up firefighter" then we are not going to agree on much. Nobody will mistake a soccer jersey for a firefighter outfit.
Nah, but my Fire cap gets confused for some municipal fire department all the damn time, even in this city.
Even though the Fire crest is my favorite, not being a Fire fan didn't allow me to see the crest for what it was. I think I'd be good with a change too if I were a Fire fan. This crest, I don't like... So are they going to go with the black and white look now? That could be interesting. What the hell is the thing in the middle. If it were a team not from the midwest I'd think it was a post-modern art piece of mountains reflected in a lake. Maybe it makes more sense to the people of Chicago.
No, USPTO filings are always black and white. It'll be navy, yellow "flame" on top, red "flame" on the bottom and white text. I think red outlines. I don't hate it, but it sure could have been a lot better. The branding that OnGoal put on Kansas City was pretty awful right out of the gate, but they managed to make up for it. Either way I'm happy to have an opportunity to be optimistic about my local team for the first time in a decade, weird crest or not weird crest. Fire fans are largely pissed about the change, but then again the most vocal Fire fans need to be dragged kicking and screaming out of the 1990s.
