For people who want to start Zardes, are you rembering how our offense completely dropped of when he came on against Mexico in the GC final three years ago? He offered nothing in the way of hold up play. It is great he scored a couple of goals, but he is still a limited soccer player.
He's a sub at higher levels. When the defenses are a bit tired he is smart and gets into great positions and with the A team there will be feeders with vision and skill to get it to him. But no, not a starter for me. But Sunday it's him or Hoppe who just argued with Berhalter when he was pulled. Does that make Berhalter go 'comfort' or does like and accept the fire?
Berhalter really screwed the pooch by not replacing Arriola with Cowell and Dike with Pepi. At the very least, it was a gamble to keep Dike in the squad and it backfired enormously.

Aaronson needs to be in the starting 11. His creative play and ability to maintain possession is going to lead to goals for us, and he's going to prove that over the next year on his club and in qualifying. The idea of Aaronson, Reyna, and Hoppe putting pressure on defenses and combining with Pulisic makes me excited.

That does sound fun. If you had a diamond up top with Hoppe at the top and Reyna at the bottom (plus CP and BA on the wings), assuming you still want Dest and ARob in there, who is going to defend? Hoppe and Aaronson are good gengenpressers, but are Pulisic and Reyna and Dest? Does McKennie have to lose some of his new habits and return to the primarily-a-destroyer role? I still think Weah is better than Aaronson against tip top competition. But JMO.
CONCACAF changed the tournament rules mid tourney, to allow injured players to be replaced. Arriola clearly isn't injured as he has started the last 2 games, same with Dike. I dont think not swapping them out was a Gregg thing, more than it was those guys weren't eligible to be swapped out.
From my understanding the new rule was that the player needed to be incapable of playing for the rest of the tourney, and you had to submit an application to a committee for approval. Perhaps we played by the rules too much, or perhaps the committee simply made clear that they needed formal, definitive proof the player was completely out. But replacing guys who have a slight knock was clearly against the intent of the rule change, which was mostly made for COVID.
1. Dest played as left back (Barca vs. Stugatt) 2. Scally played left back 1st half, right back 2nd half. 3. Konrad played left wing in a 3-5-2.
We’ve gone from having ? to having Miles, McKenzie and Richards. What happens with Richards’ loan (or lack thereof) will be super important.
What is really impressive about that group is that they are comfortable on left or right. That is great flexibility.
How does on choose between Horvath's Nation's League finals heroics and Turner's stellar Gold Cup? If Steffan is still sitting at Man City, it's got to be one of those other two. Even if Steffan were somehow playing, I'd still opt for Turner.
I think against teams where we won't have much possession, I prefer Turner. He's our best shot stopper. No need to play out of the back with fancy footwork if a team is going to have 2/3 of the ball against us. Steffan I think should start against weaker sides where he will be less called on for saves and more needed to help in build up. We'll see if Berhalter actually platoons the position during qualifying. Would be a gutsy move.
If Turner ain't in your top 11, then your top 11 is wrong. CP ----- Hoppe ------ Reyna McKennie ------ Mussah/Aaronson Adams Dest ----- Brooks -----Long (if healthy, if not Robinson) ----- Cannon TURNER
------------------------Turner--------------------- ------------------Brookes------Robinson---------- Dest-------------------------------------------Jedi (but it is CLOSE now) ------------------McKinnie---------Musah----------- Reyna------------------Aaronson-------------Pulisic ------------------------------Hoppe---------------------- Yup, Turner, Hoppe, and M-Rob just moved up to the big boys team. deal with it.
You say lineups are wrong if Turner is not in the top 11, and then have Long over Robinson? Long has never been anywhere near as good for the US as Robinson has just shown. Not even close.
I'm going to assume you made a mistake and left out Adams by accident. He's one of our top 3 players at any position.
yes.........yes that there's an oopsiedaisy. I am finishing up the 4th finger of scotch now, I knew I was missing someone. Drop Aaronson and put Adams behind Moose and Weston
