Last week, on soccernet, I read about his idea for revising the SPL. He believed that there should be 16 teams, and two games against each team. He said the players have stated they get bored of playing many teams four times. Also, with a significantly less amount of games, only 30, each slip up from an Old Firm team would be absolutely vital in the run for the title. This would mean more of a possibility of another team passing an Old Firm team up top. Players may also be fresher for each game because of the less congested schedule. And finally, the thing I ask every time I come to this forum, can anything be done to make the Old Firm share their TV revenue?
Berti is just ripping off the idea the scottish people and the majority inside scottish football have been screaming for since they realised the SPL was going nowhere fast, however the chairmen of the "small clubs" currently in the SPL wont vote for it, they wanted 4 games a season against the old firm, they wanted less clubs in the top flight so the money goes around more and they still want it. Postive idea, wont hold my breath to see it implemented, they will probably just bring out a rule about having an under 16 player in the match day squad or something equally innane.
Other than the Old Firm , it's not really greed per say . It's more a case of trying to get by and without those 4 home matches with the Sectarian twins it's hard to balance the books .
