I watched the 1st half of Newcastle/Inter. Bernard looked like the best defender for Newcastle. Where is he from? He marks tight, and lets you know he is right on you.

I saw him play a couple of years ago, although generally as a midfielder, when Newcastle loaned him to Darlington as Robson thought he needed toughening up (nothing like Division 3 for a few kicks). He always had ability, although I never thought he was suited for part of a back four. His recent performances have proved me wrong on that.

    Re: Re: Bernard

Clan, if I knew, I wouldn't have asked the question, but I've since found out he's from France. :) He looked like the best defender in the 1/2 game I've seen him play. If he plays like that every game, he looks like a tough man marker.

I watched that whole game and he never slacked off.He was fantastic..although another ref may have red carded him after about the 20th minute.

I have only seen a handfull of Toon games this season, but, i would have to say that that may have been his best performance of the season to date.

Pity the toon didn't win really. Not that i was cheering the Toon on, it was more for the future co-efficient points that i wanted the Englisg team to win and the Italian one to lose.

But i do admire Sir Bob.One of the very, very few true gentlemen left in the game.Bates could sit up and take a lesson or two from him i dare say.

He does have his moments though - witness the Robert dismissal against Arsenal or the Middlesbrough postpontment.
The guy is a national treasure, even when he loses it a bit you can't help but like him.

I agree wholeheartedly with Wildman262, actually I was wondering how many people would notice about Bernard, he's tough and I wouldn't be surprised if a big gun comes asking for him *cough*Barcelona*cough*.

He's also scored some big goals (e.g., against ManU and Chelsea) this season.

Do the Players in Spain dive like they do at Inter? if they do then Bernard wouldn't last long out their because he would be sent off every game he played in.
