Asked Matt Crocker about last year's USMNT search, and how this coming one would be different. He answer: "... I'm in a better place to have much more of a targeted search, where I'll be more inclined to go hard and go early with specific candidates ..."https://t.co/XXOc0L9kPj pic.twitter.com/j0qp0sspjP— Henry Bushnell (@HenryBushnell) July 10, 2024 This is interesting because Crocker is implying he understands he made a mistake with Gregg.
" There's a type of coach out there, like Martino, who sees his job as putting the best players (the guys with the best team badge) on his best xi and tell them how to play as if he were managing Barca. When they fail he simply says, ah well, I played our best players and told them what to do and they were not good enough." It's like Berhalter saying Holland had a UCL striker and we didn't so we lost. Klopp used Firmino as his 9 at Liverpool. I bet he solves our 9 problem with a way of playing that suits what we got.
It is a tall order. But 2026 has to be the focus in hiring the next coach. We'll worry about what comes after 2026 when the time times. We only get so many swings at the pinata. We shouldn't punt on any of them, to mix my metaphors.
boyyyyyy i need this next manager to be STRICT and tighten these boys tf up, @ussoccer MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION— shedaina (@ShedainaD) July 10, 2024 I agree with Shedaina. No more kumbaya around the campfire.
I just feel like saying Greg was never ready. He actually performed well for who he was so I’ll thank him for that but it’s also sad we were stuck with someone’s brother as the head coach for so long. Can we please never do that again?!? This was criminal.
I've been vacationing on Caribbean beaches the last 2 weeks. So, this is quite the news to see on the eve of my return to the states. But what is all this Bielsa and Southgate talk about? Do people think either is realistically available to us? And why on earth would people be advocating for Henry? Even Vieira would be a pass for me. But there is no surprise Gregg is out. He had to be out. Anything less would be uncivilized. The real work begins now though. We will see how competent the new USSF is now.
https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...mens-national-team-head-coach-gregg-berhalter That's interesting...They did not say why they've fired him...
I think for a number of reasons: It puts the old guard on notice, The old guard isn't getting results anyway, Maybe you find a few players, Nobody really cares about friendlies.
Alas, Berhalter has been deemed ineffective at pushing out those deliverables, guiding the transformation of team culture, and establishing a new paradigm for process improvements.
Dolo accomplished more in one year than Bob Bradley did in 4. I think that’s a fair comparison. All this talk about “someone who can come in with experience with only two years…” makes me think USSF will do something utterly stupid, like hire Bradley because “he has the experience” and “he did X in 2010…” I’ve been saying it for years: Cherundolo will take us to the promised land!
from the same article: "they've gotta fit the profile, which is a serial winning coach, somebody that can continue to develop this potential group of players, somebody that's got a huge interest and a passion for player development." this board- without exception that ive ever seen- insists player development doesnt occur at the national team level. i suspect crocker may be speaking in a somewhat more limited way, but still an interesting comment.
