Hiring consultants are often used for good reasons. For one, everyone that is hiring has other jobs in most situations, so you get an "expert" in the field to generate a list. One of the few good reasons to get consultants are expertise you don't have and bandwidth for temporary workstreams. It's also a defense mechanism to say that yes, you did everything you could. You brought in experts! People were doing consultants long before DEI. It absolutely is a safeguard against people saying you didn't do everything you could or you didn't follow a process, you are right about that. Also, I doubt any of these consultants actually hire anyone. They gather criteria, they run through candidates, maybe do some legwork, recommend a number of people to talk through but in the end US Soccer will select the criteria and the final person.
"“Our immediate focus is on finding a coach who can maximize our potential as we continue to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, and we have already begun our search process,” said Crocker." well stated ... maximize the potential ... the potential is there.
Who will be the next USMNT Head Coach? 🤔@ByDougMcIntyre shares his top 10 candidates to watch ⬇️ https://t.co/Q4oNxipGiN pic.twitter.com/0DM1gtbvsP— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) July 10, 2024 Looking at the ratings he gave it seems Dolo would be the early frontrunner by a large margin
Bisela is already in charge of another team, It’d be impossible for him unless he completely fails with Uruguay within the next couple of weeks or pulls some stupid shit out of his ass.
That's just a general thesis sentence, and is just about my feeling... in context, thought it was pretty clear I'm going into how many of these give a clear, easy YES. So to take from what I said "no one would consider this job" is not at all reasonable. Again, we will see who they get. And if this is indeed the list... at a minimum we can't have bullshit excuses years later that "the search was a joke".
Wikipedia has different numbers (probably league vs total). Anyway, per game: Curtin 0.28 Cherundolo 0.84 Nancy 0.50 Marsch 0.39 Noonan 0.5 Berhalter 0.03 Hard to ignore the player quality differences between the teams, but still.
imagine if Gregg chose to leave his job after the 2022 World Cup. I bet he would have been a spicier choice than he is now. He was a 7 before being rehired. You right about eating our own for sure though
Needed to happen. Anyone who knows my positing history knows that I believe this should have happened…. And should have happened a lot sooner. But a few highlights: -In the first cycle, he was able to construct a good defensive system that conceded few goals (unfortunately he got worse in this area in the second cycle). -I’ll applaud his attempt to implement a new system, slow build up / possession, over counter attack (although you all know I thought he was too rigid in this). Even though I don’t think we should necessarily stick to this approach, at least, the players will understand it, if we need to go back to it. -He reportedly maintained good relationships with players. -He was arguably the best dual national recruiter we’ve ever had. Balogun, Musah, Dest, Tillman, Pepi, etc. -He made a bold and correct decision to bring back Tim Ream for the World Cup. -He was the Mexecutioner. -Other important wins: Ecuador, Morocco, Ghana (am I missing anyone else?) -NL and GC Champions. -He had to see the team through Covid. -He had to deal with an insane injury crisis in 2021-2022. No coach ever wants to go through a plague of injuries like that one. In my opinion, that was the worst injury crisis throughout USMNT modern history (since I’ve followed since 1994). -He oversaw the major overhaul of the USMNT, ushering in the new generation, after the 2018 embarrassment. That required him to balance the right times of introducing new players into the team, even before they would have typically been ready beforehand (essentially having to get the most an u23 team), as there was almost no one of value left from 2018 generation. -Most important of all, he got the team out of the group in the World Cup. ….There. Don’t say I never said anything positive about him.
His name was bouncing around the Palace and Swansea jobs, Swansea especially. He'd be very lucky to land a Championship job now.

We are deeply grateful to Gregg for his commitment the past five years to the Men’s National Team and to U.S. Soccer. Thank you for your continued support.
Cherundolo seems to be killing it this year with a far less expensive group of players than people realize. Spending, they sit 17th out of 29 total mls clubs.
Klopp is one of the few who would I think. In fact, we might blame the players a more appropriate amount for once.
To me this means, oddly enough, that with Klopp money won’t be an issue. If he wants the job, he’ll take it. He can earn a lot more money elsewhere, but (for reasons that escape me) he might want to accept our challenge. Sounds crazy, I know. We might be better off offering (a symbolic) $1, letting him work from home (aka Europe) initially, at least while he gets to know the players and settles in, then step things up in 2025-2026. It’s probably too soon after the intensity of the PL, but the pacing might seem like something of a vacation. He’s certainly worth approaching. Again, he doesn’t need the money, but the job would have to strongly appeal to him.
He is killing it -- and the underlyings are REALLY impressive. That said, once you incorporate transfer fees, total spend on that roster is pretty high. But LAFC is killing it. And as much as their point total doesn't quite reflect, them adding Giroud could be pretty nuts.
His dark arts occurred before VAR. Wasn’t it the match with Coulibally where Clint dished out a cheap shot right at the opening kick off that could possibly have been red?
