part 1 of the job done. I think Gregg will land on his feet if he gives it a bit of time, probably with a middling MLS club. Hopefully the September or sooner hire actually happens, we're on a short timer now.
That clickbait site ESPN is also reporting it. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/40480333/usa-coach-gregg-berhalter-fired-copa-america
According to this AP article: Jürgen Klopp, Thierry Henry and Marcelo Bielsa are among those being speculated about as candidates to replace Berhalter, along with Jesse Marsch, Hugo Pérez, Pellegrino Matarazzo, David Wagner, Steve Cherundolo, Jim Curtain, Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino. Note: the spelling error can be blamed on the AP writer and editor.

When will this social media shitposting end? Gregg Berhalter has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately » https://t.co/sHi1ss2QDe pic.twitter.com/pkHAiCRGnP— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) July 10, 2024
Gregg did a decent job his first cycle. He won regional trophies and made the World Cup's Round of 16. Post World Cup would have been the right time for US Soccer to move on from Gregg. Too bad about the Reynas thing. He should not be judged on the basis of his distant past. Hopefully, he lands on his feet. He seems well suited to an office job.
That's just a list of names who've been bandied about the last decade. It's not exactly current or journalistically rigorous.
Lol Gio Reyna liking this post on Instagram less than 10 mins after the #Berhalter news got posted pic.twitter.com/ajA4FA4I49— Mixhail (@Mixhail) July 10, 2024 Possibly real?
“At the senior level, we’ve got to win,” Matt Crocker said. “We know winning is the yardstick, and we didn’t do that.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...0.fv-5mYRTz-678jKw-e3M-Ea1qaHrzK-2-6SXzumaI6Y
anytime a leader gets fired - there is some remorse/regret of the staff that work for said leader. unless the leader is a pedo or murderer or rapist etc. you get the idea. and yes Dest and Weah need to learn from their stupid reds .... fact is they are young ... as I have said in other forum posts - Clint needs to teach them the mental aspect of the dark arts.
Society now that tax dollars aren’t being used to pay Gregg Berhalter pic.twitter.com/aIGjWGYWce— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) July 10, 2024 Please note that tax dollars were never used to pay him at all.
Cannot imagine who on this list would want the job... I think not many. Marsch, Dolo, Curtin? Are those the only names that you could reasonably expect to not have to really convince? I don't even know if Marsch is a yes, considering his gig with Canada and him feeling slighted last time around. Klopp, Poch, Allegri, Bielsa... I mean, I just don't see that at all. I suspect all 4 of them would be great hires though, that would be very very welcome. Just doesn't make sense to me. Don't think you're getting a yes from that caliber of coach. Curtin, Perez, Henry, and Marsch I personally do not want... at best they don't move the needle and/or bring with them other unneeded baggage, at worst they could be a real disaster. IMO. Think Dolo is a fine hire, makes sense on just about every level and seems most like what we will get.
For people worried that the search will take 6 months again, it's probably worth noting that Berhalter was rehired a little under 2 months after Matt Crocker became sporting director. This time, Crocker's saying they're hoping to have a new coach before the September friendlies.
Just checked my phone while on this beach in Tahoe and awesome news. Gonna go get a margarita for my wife and smores on the grill for the kids. Maybe someone here has fireworks. But, it’s all just the first domino to fall. Fed only did the obvious first step.
they will talk about this tonight with Uruguay/Colombia match commentary ... will be interesting to hear how they phrase it ...
At Liverpool, Klopp earned more than $50 million annually in salary and other guarantees. In the USSF’s most recent tax filing (2022), Berhalter made about $2.3 million, including $900,000 in bonuses after the World Cup. Time for Bigsoccer to start pinching pennies!
All I'm asking for (right now, anyway) is that the next coach be someone who wasn't fired for "lack of attacking play" at club level. A watchable US against anyone in the world top 100 would be a very welcome change.
Literally off the top of my head I can tell you that Henry and Bielsa have both already expressed their interest in the job in the past.
