I agree 100%, which is why I am fine with Gregg moving on. I just think it's clear the changes he made put them in a decent position to not just get that draw but steal the win. Many don't like the idea that the US could be in a position to have to steal a win against the likes of Panama... but that's just too bad. That's the obvious reality of the US player pool and going down to 10.

I keep bringing up the red card because the cutting edge of performance will almost always be about the players. And this match is no exception -- higher xG in 2nd half, Panama created little, both goals against were significant mis-plays by US goalkeeper, and at least 2 good counter opportunities in which the final ball yet again just wasn't good enough.

But I'd never push back on someone saying the subs were super conservative, and the gameplan was too quickly resigned to "bunker"-counter. That's fine criticism. And overall assessment of Berhalter being too inflexible, too stuck on his plan, and unable to get more creation from the players.

Just don't minimize a 17th min red in THE must win match of one of the most important competitions in USSF history. That's all I ask.

    I’ve got to wonder
    “Cesspool” feels a little severe.

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

It gives that kind of feel.

    “He will never be interested.”

Dude. Talking about burning bridges. Very shortsighted to say something like that. I doubt he’ll ever coach the USA team now.

You can only play the teams in front of you. As I previously mentioned, GGG met or exceeded expectations in every tournament up until the Copa. Did it always look pretty? No. Was it always easy? No. But the bottom line is that we got the results, and that's what's most important.

I’m not interested even in that after watching him at Leeds. I think he might lose in a tactical battle against Jurgen.

As someone who has only soured on him over the last few months, it doesn’t have that feel at all to me. Everyone knows he’d love to have the job. Had he just kept his mouth shut, he’d have maintained a solid reputation and been a solid option for the job. Two, five, eight years from now they might’ve wanted him and he might be available. Perhaps it still happens if U.S. soccer has a complete turnover and whoever comes in doesn’t hold this against him. However, anybody with any sense would bring these comments up in an interview. He just can’t help himself to run his mouth and get that instant gratification for his ego. Nobody murdered his wife and kids. His contributions to U.S. soccer amount to two caps. He finished runner-up in a job interview process and somehow thinks that makes him special. The same thing happens to people all the time. It happened to me a few months ago. I ended up getting a job elsewhere that I’m happy with, but I also didn’t burn a bridge with the first place. Who knows what might happen a few years down the line? I didn’t take it personally, but I’m also not an overgrown baby.

in that post i wasn't only talking about the USMNT but also about the resulting very poor choices made from the youth system to the top of both men's and women's teams, all the way through. The cesspool was NOT just the USMNT but the whole of the selection process and all people in USSF's. That is cesspool is the whole of USA soccer.
The good news is that on the women's side, after they finally got rid of Vlatko Andonovski. the USWNT could be moving away from mediocre towards truly good again.
The bad news is a LOT of people, including some USMNT candidates LOVE preset systems so, maybe, the next men's coach will start by helping to back fill the cesspool and we could, maybe, end up with a USA soccer system (NOT on the field) that is actually resting on a bed of roses.

We still don't know for sure if the women's hire is good but it iis a HUGE improvement over what we have had for several years. The Gregg setback USA men's soccer tremendously and Vlatko Andonovski set back the USWNT by a lot. The cancer that infests the USMNT since The hires of new men's and women's coaches makes it look like they are trying. However either or both new coaches could just end up being a correct occument of said cesspool and things continue as is for the next few years.

    Maybe he’s holding a grudge.

Doesn’t negate the possibility the Fed is dysfunctional and there’s validity to his comments and experience.

Too many people jump to pick sides. In the real world there’s usually truth to both sides.

It's a rivalry game. A Glasgow Celtic coach can go undefeated except losing to Rangers twice and lose his job. Mexico games can't be quantified.

But when tasked with beating better teams in front of him, he was found wanting. Being the tallest midget isn't worth rewarding.

Well to be fair, to go into a job interview and lose to little brother of the VP is upsetting. He probably doesn't think Gregg is better than him and if not for Greg's inside hookup of being a former eagle and his bro, Marsh has a similar resume. I would be bitter too.

I know he is holding a grudge. See my post before this. He may be rightfully upset someone not better than him but with better connections got the job.

I keep hearing that Berhalter lost his job because of Tim Weah's one bad moment. We had a deciding game against Uruguay at home. We had 0.29xG.

To be fair, your post makes zero sense, as Berhalter’s brother has been gone for a few years.

    See Jond's post
So I could try and claim it was a friend of Jay to save face but we don't know who it was. Marsh is upset because the Job was supposed to be his but then some Gregg ally changed the plan.

That’s beautiful, but your previous post is still completely inaccurate. Marsch doesn’t know what happened either. Nor does Davies. They can speculate all they want to, and if Crocker went back on his word, that’s very uncool, but it doesn’t mean that Jay Berhalter was involved. And this is taking Marsch at his word. It’s entirely possible, and perhaps likely that he misinterpreted whatever Crocker told him. You’re just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.
