Db10 is ready to sign but is Arsenal ready too? At 34 he still is awesome and I want him to stay. Certianly he cant be a starter for 50+ games but I believe he can continue in the role he plays now. Jeffers seems to be moving forward, slowly, and I think his success may come from DB10 as a role model.
I agree with kygunner, I think DB10 can start another 50 games, can still score, but more importantly, can set up a lot of goals, and draw attention in the box to open things up for Thierry and the others. And these are things that Frannie should be looking to learn from DB10. Frannie just needs to be patient and work his ass off. I don't think he's going to be as prolific a goal scorer as TH14, but he can the man in the box, scrapping for every chance he gets. If he scores and assists as well as Bergkamp, he'll be an asset to Arsenal.
Assuming that Arsenal can get to the Quarter finals in the Champs League and make a run to win the European Cup at Old Trafford, I would think Bergkamp would consider retiring since the Champs League is the last prize he wants badly. He does love playing though and we all love watching him play. Don't want to speak too soon but I would love to see a Champs League Final win this year by the Gunners. However, goal no. 1 is to get into the quarters . . . it's going to be tough . . .
To quote the latest ArseAm poll: "Long live the king!" DB10 is 34 and still as spectacular as he was on the day we rescued him from Ajax. Here's to many more seasons as the best MF that Arsenal's ever seen! Vive God! OPArse
Not Ajax I hate to nitpick, but when it comes to all things Bergkamp, we should all strive for the same perfection as he demonstrates every time he is on the ball. - We actually rescued him from Inter where he had a short and ignominious stay after Ajax. He had a glorious run while at Ajax, getting into the first team at 17 and winning the Dutch League with them on a few occasions. Arsenal bought him for around 7.5 million pounds - the one smart thing Bruce Rioch did during his tenure as the Arsenal skipper. Not sure if anyone else will agree, but I have always felt that Wenger has not really liked DB10 as much as the other players he "discovered", and that the only reason he plays Dennis is because he really has no choice. If it were up to him, I would think his ego would force him to thrust one of his projects into the limelight at every opportunity - Wiltord, Viera, Ljunberg, Henry, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love all of them, including Le Boss himself, but let's be realistic - no manager is going to be deemed a genius for having DB10 in their side?!?!?!?! Conspiracy theories abound.
In my most humble opinion, I think that when we praise Wenger for his genius in DB10, we are praising the inventive ways that he uses him, rather than the fact that he does use him, of course he should, he'd be stupid not to. Vive le AFC! OPArsenal PS- About the Inter thing, yes, I know he was there, but it was very brief and I think he is best remembered (pre-Arsenal) as being from Ajax.
I totally love DB10, he's why I started watching Arsenal in the first place. For those of you who wish to further discuss the greatness that is Dennis Bergkamp, feel free to email me at dennisbergkampisgod@yahoo.com Yes, that is my personal email address. I'm still trying to explain it to my new girlfriend...
Same with me - CDNGooner to MNGooner. I became a Gooner b/c of Bergkamp. Before Bergkamp, I didn't follow football that much (focussed on NHL hockey and baseball) . . . I was lost . . . but now I'm found. Now I watch every Arsenal game that's on the tele . . . footballitis! I don't follow baseball that much anymore. I still follow NHL (Go Canucks Go!) and the NFL (I support the Pack). NBA? Not really into the NBA.
