Rafa Benitez reckons Italian football needs to change its mentality: http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/napoli/?action=read&idnet=dHV0dG9uYXBvbGkubmV0LTE4NjQ3MA Here is my blog on why he has a point: http://calcioblogsanddoriaisms.word...nitez-is-right-to-suggest-a-mentality-change/
Maybe he should change his mentality as well. He has a good group of players, yet lately he can't seem to find his footing with them, or he makes excuses.
he speaks the truth dont be so pig headed. Teams here are scared to play they rather play like Chievo than try to do something interesting like Verona and Sassoulo.
Rafa does come off that way. I don't usually agree with what he says but he has a point here. To me, what matters is that those comments were made, not the fact it was Benitez out of all people. In some ways, this could be a case of Benitez needing to be careful of what he wishes for. If more teams had attacking philosophies like Verona and Sassuolo, he might come undone more frequently and then he would come up with more excuses.
Totally agree with you. I'm not a fan of Mandorlini (his previous Serie A record is poor) but Verona has been doing well this season and at least his team tries to attack.
we play better against teams that attack its the teams that sit back that give us the worst problems. Even though many here detest the English league the one thing you can't take away from most of their teams is their fight and willingness to put on a show.
of course the romanisti come in and rep any benitez bashing they are still mad about getting their asses kicked in the san paolo. in terms of this, I agree, lots of teams park the bus for a point, and will run around the stadium in celebration over a scoreless draw. Teams like Bologna and Chievo could get relegated and it would make Serie A a better place, teams like Verona, Sassuolo with Di Francesco make Serie A relegation battles or just watching neutrally more fun to watch, even Sampdoria under Miha is cool to watch too, Sampdoria with Delio Rossi was boring and too results driven. Don't care who said it, just glad someone did, if it was Montella the Romanisti would be all over this agreeing with him, but because its Benitez, its time to bash Rafa! I'm critical of Benitez, but not for saying this. I agree with the blog post as well, well written, and I agreed with it.
shows how blind people really are. Fine be content with the way teams like Chievo, Bologna, and Milan play.
Also Roma fans remember how much you guys bitched about teams bunkering down against you and remeber how much you guys hated losing a defensive juve setup. Maybe now you'll see the point Rafe was making.
No they won't, rafe made it so it becomes a foundation to bash him. For what its worth, if Rudi said it I would have agreed despite what club team he managed!
But this is not true and its a commonly held myth. Some of the football served up in England is as dour and negative as you will see. It links back into the other thread, they market their product really well.
list teams Im betting one of them is a team Fat Sam coaches. Whenever Ive seen the EPL I see movement.
English average Over 2.5 goals:48.5% Goals p. match: 2.67 Played matches: 291 out of 380 - 76.6% completed Italian average Over 2.5 goals: 48.4% Goals p. match: 2.68 Played matches: 279 out of 380 - 73.4% completed The cold hard facts, don't be fooled by the bright lights and shiney marketing campaigns....Every league has good and bad games and its much of a muchness? England has a higher percentage of 0-0's as well yet you don't here about the bad games, bad for business perhaps? You might see movement but running around doesn't mean that's a good thing. They often run around and get nowhere.
Fat man has an ulterior motive anyway, he's got one working tactic and it doesn't work all that well, sit and counter. That's all he does so go figure why he's saying something like this
well some kind of movement is better than no movement whats so ever. There is more to it than just shiny lights there are even Serie A fans that think the English game is superior to what they watch even my own Dad who was born and raised in italy thinks more of English soccer than Italian.
Well Roma doesnt fair any better against defensive teams either. Anyways there is not point in discussing something when people already have a view on the matter. I think Serie A needs to make some changes. Swansea plays better than most teams in italy for Christ sakes.
I'm not saying Italian football is all roses, far from it. Yes English football has a higher tempo in general but that doesn't make it amazing. Swansea are a credit tbf, they grew organically and now are able to buy players of top class. They also benefit from the brand, don't you get it? You're making my point clearer. English football's greatest strength is the brand and all the money that comes with it. Italian football of the pitch needs a massive shake up
Both leagues have merits and demerits IMO. Crap teams like Bologna and Chievo are teams who just park the bus and hope to nick goal off set pieces. Annoyingly shit teams who play for a point. West Ham and Crystal Palace are those equivalents in England.
Well then the question is if Serie A gains more money like the English league will teams try doing what Swansea is doing or keep doing what they are doing now ? All teams care about is Salvezza there needs to be more to the game than that ambition. De Francesco was doing great and the stupid owner decided to panic and screw up a great project.
And another thing ciucc. On the other BBC thread, (the blatantly biased corporation), you said football is like food, some like spicey, some like mild and football was no different...so both styles had their merits, a fair point but now a known shit talker tells us Italian football needs to change its mentality and all of a sudden you're all for the English game and movement? Just because he's your manager doesn't mean you have to agree with everything he says. Again the stats say football wise its all similar in the end....once again Rafa is talking shit.
We should not be looking towards england for youth development. We should be looking to what Spain and Germany do. Italy is far behind in that regard, but they do have talented youngsters, its transitioning to be ready for first team that is a crap shoot shooting them into serie B sides who care zero about their development and 100% about their own end.
very true Im just getting annoyed with the lack of progress. Though I did say that things do lose popularity and may never recover from it hopefully things turn around in Serie A. Im not expert I just know what Serie A is doing right now isnt working all to well it will be my league regardless because I have a connection to it.
