Dear Burn Fans, Well we are four games into the season and things aren't going too well for your average Burn fan. A lot has been said about our current situation over the last week or so and I don't want to run over all the ground that's been covered already. I've read a whole lot of frustrated posts in various forums and we run the real danger of losing our focus. Yes Southlake sucks - really bad Yes it is less enjoyable to watch a Burn game this year Yes the Burn front office has let us down on numerous commitments Yes the team sucks Yes a little prick just took out one of our best players & nicest guys for the season Yes I'm nervous about Hunt & Frisco & I have much less confidence in the front office than I used to Yes we pay more for less product in almost every way Yes we lost a massive chunk of our fellow loud fans Yes we lost a big chunk of our non-loud fans Yes our coach seems to have the inspirational prowess of a pot of cabbage BUT We still have a team Oscar plays Saturday! Frisco SHOULD be great We SHOULD get some of our fans back WHEN the team picks up We SHOULD get a lot more of our fans back in Frisco Personally I think the tailgate situation is an improvement - although I appreciate it's not ideal We still might find someone to spend that cap money on So what to do? If you really aren't enjoying the games at all then don't come. Simple as that. I'd appreciate it personally if you don't try to discourage others from coming but I understand that you want to be honest with your friends. All I can say is that I encourage you to give it a little more time as things WILL get better. At least on the field. And I do believe that the front office will try and improve things off the field that they have control over. If you're one of the people who feel rather strongly about the Burn rather than just watching some soccer then I urge you to keep on coming to every game you can. WE need you, the club needs you and most importantly the TEAM needs you. I understand that you may feel you don't get the value you used to. I understand that the field/stadium/crowds suck. I understand that sometimes we will just have to sing, "We should've watched the West Wing", (or whatever comes on on Saturday @ 7:30pm). If all that has pushed you to the point where you just can't come anymore then I appreciate the money your season tickets bring to the front office. For me it hasn't reached that point. Not even close. I still believe this team can do some great things and I still believe that I can help them as a fan. As for the Inferno We are still the biggest & best supporters group We still have a pretty decent number in the stands Our drums still kick ass Our chants are still the only ones in the stadium We will still party down all season long whatever the team does With regard to the future (Frisco) Chamo & I plan to meet with the front office regularly as things move forward toward Frisco. When the time is right we will meet with Hunt/Wagner/whoever but not before. We will pass on the Inferno concerns as a whole and lobby heavily to get back some of what we have seen disappear. But understand that to be most effective we need a few things. 1. Most important, we need NUMBERS. Plain and simple the more members we have the bigger influence we will have and the more likely we will get what we want. It is extremely likely for example that we will want to try and secure an area in the stands to do our thing. That just wasn't possible in the move to Southlake for various reasons but we have 687 days to make that happen in Frisco. 2. We still need people IN THE STANDS. You may doubt Hunt's commitment to our kind of atmosphere (as do I) but the more people we have in the stands each week, the more visible & audible we become, the more he will see what an atmosphere like that can do for the rest of the crowd and the team, the less likely he will be to want to mess with that. 3. We MUST join with whatever other supporters/groups we can. Strength in numbers. That means we must encourage others to join us AND make a big effort to mix with other groups when we can. 4. We MUST stick together. As the season goes on Chamo & I will be requesting feedback from everyone, Inferno members AND prospective members, to take to Andy/Hunt. Understand that not everyone will get exactly what they want at the end of the day. People will want different things. If you don't get what you want, try to express that without lashing out. If you don't agree with someone take the time to see their point. So to Saturday. I have the Irish flag. I will bring at least one Sharpie. Please find me and sign it for Ronnie. Jonno.
Yeah I remember those two. My wife slapped me as my head and everyone's head in the section turned and watched them walk past. Anyways - you talked me into it. I was on the fence about driving up for the game this Saturday since I KNOW FOR A FACT I WILL BE THERE ON MAY 31 and I have to work till noon here in Austin. But I will drive up to lend my voice to the cause. Because in the end, the team on the field is the cause. Good looking chicks and drinking beer in the woods is just a bonus. And I will be in my Ronnie O jersey with an Irish scarf.
How is that beer in the woods thing going? And where is it exactly. Opposite the GA section, across the street? Or on the same side as GA?
Yes opposite the GA section. Just walk up to the South stand, turn 90 deg to your left and walk all the way till you hit trees. You will be facing an 8 foot wide Inferno banner. Walk to the left of the banner and you will find a path that leads to many delights! There is a picture from the 1st game on www.the-inferno.net Go to the tailgating section
Yes, many delights. But not 70 virgins. Not usually, at least. And after the fifth virgin, you are probably looking for someone who knows what she is doing anyway.
Re: and if that was not compelling enough... Perhaps the Inferno should always have a couple of t-shirts "customized" Veronica Paysse-style for just such an occassion.
A younger contact who can do active recruiting should probably be found. 100 people strong on the same page would help out the atmosphere quite a bit.
Maybe, in the interest of fair advertising, the firm's name needs to be changed to North Dallas Vatos.
Jonno, I'll definitely be there shouting at the top of my lungs no matter where my dad bought tickets for us sit at. See you at the tailgait.
