Apparently, he's no longer needed for Friendlies: http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/030131/80/dpmdh.html And with Wenger looking to bring in a replacement, could we be seeing his swan-song this year?
For one thing.. They need to be giving his replacement for the future time on the national team in the friendlies. Euro 2004 is coming and Seaman won't be in goal then or in 2006 for sure.
Who is it going to be? When I was in London over christmas they were touting Kirkland from Liverpool but now he is injured.
Wasn't Richard Wright, who, IIRC, Arsenal sold to Everton last year, a leading contender for the English side?
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=256410&cc=5901 This has been a long time coming and Seamo should take it in stride. I'm honestly amazed that he's lasted this long as England's #1. God, I thought Nigel Martyn was going to take his place a few years ago and now he's washed up! The link I've pasted says David James and Paul Robinson will be called on for the next friendly, but based on their respective teams' positions I have to wonder if they're serious challengers or just a stop-gap. Wright was suppossed to be the next big thing when we bought him, and at his age he still has a few chances left.
Paul Robinson, no doubt. He's way better than James, Wright or Kirkland and I think he should be in the side ahead of Seaman right now. Leeds' plight is no reflection on him, he saved them from some even bigger beatings in the early part of the season. In fact, a bid to see if he could have been prised away during the transfer window might have been the best answer to our goalkeeping problem. If they are willing to sell Woodgate for £9m, a similar bid for Robinson would surely have seen some joy.
David James has been very dodgy for us. Granted, a brick wall would be dodgy if he had to play behind out back four but James has made his share of gaffs and then some.
I can't believe David James is even part of England top 3 goalies !! He would not even be playing in a premiere division team outside of England.
