If DaMarcus wants to go to Europe he better start scoring a lot of goals and getting more assists. Just dribbling around opponents is not enough.

  3. He doesn't need to acquire the Josh Wolff Syndrome of playing hard for Uncle Sam & less hard for the club.

The reasons DaMarcus will go to Europe -- assuming Ivan Gadzdis doesn't ask for some obscene amount of money -- are:

    --he's fast

    --he defend's like crazy

    --he's really fast.

Did I mention that he was fast?

Unlike most fans, who only see deficiencies in our players, these scouts see what Bruce Arena does.

A really dangerous player who can strike terror into the heart of defenses == ANY defense.

I agree completely. What other detractors fail to realize is that a player with Beasley's gifts will play even better when he is around other players that can better benifit from the spaces his pace and dribbling skills will create. Players who will make smarter and better runs to facilitate passes from DMB. One only has to watch how many times Beasley and Donovan "hook up" in any Nats game to realize that he becomes an even more dangerous player when he has players that can feed off of him.
It wont be necessary for him to score loads of goals if he is creating chances for others to score. He does that now, just that nobody on the Fire is taking advantage of these chances.

I was really hoping this was going to be about Damarcus starting some kind of rap group and being on stage. I'm not much of a rap fan but I'd pay to see that.

I agree with this. And I'll add that he also contributes more than scoring chances for other people--as another poster mentioned, he's got serious defensive chops.

It would be great if he scored goals like a monster, too, but European clubs aren't always looking for players who net lots of goals, so long as they contribute something else. Look at Viera. That guy is lucky if he scores twice in a season, and there's not a team in Europe that wouldn't kill to have him.

(Yes, yes, I know--Beez and Viera are different players in different positions with different expectations, but you know what I mean.)

And that's probably why he's still playing in Chicago.

And why shouldn't he ask for a lot of money? MLS invests in these players and helps develop them; we shouldn't be just giving them away because we're so "grateful" that European clubs are looking at us.

    Othello, Aaron?

Shakespeare had a definite tendency to write strong and independent black characters. Even he couldn't write a hero part though. Guess there's no getting past some degree of social pressures on art.

I thought his secret Blue Man Group membership was out of the bag.

    Why Othello?

Christ people... really. "He's black, ergo rap." "He's black, ergo othello."

    On the real topic:

Whomever pointed out Beez's ability whith other strong players is on the mark. Soccer is more than scoring and assisting (I know, I know, "Duh"). DMB's presence on the field for a full 90 minutes has great affect on the outcome of the game. Especially when there are good players on the field with him.

Yes, I'm sure the giant jewel-encrusted '7' around hin neck and his self-proclaimed affinity for the genre had nothing to do with it.

Anyhow, I fully expect DaMarcus won't finish the year with us, but I hope to christ his future's not with the mattressmakers.

His favorite actor is Chris Tucker and his favorite movie is Last of the Mohicans. Is this the seedy side effect of Project 40?

And while I'm on it. What the hell do people see in Jay-Z? Man he sucks. Why the hell someone like Guru doens't get all the money while that clown does is beyond me.

Yeah Old School Rap is great. I also liked Public Enemy, De La Soul and Eric B. and Rakim. And Snoop Dogg's latest stuff is really good.

Having auditioned to be a Blue Man, I can tell you for certain that DMB is too short to make the cut.

I agree that the scouts will see his great speed and be wowed. He made the Mexicans crap themselves, and showed them what flair really is. Just like last summer when he made the Uruguayan and Portuguese defenders with Italian League experience look like orange cones. And he took their hits and jumped back up, at both ends of the field, so don't say he isn't tough enough. Still, it would be nice to see him hit some nice crosses and finish better. Then again, what 20-year-old is a complete player?

Contrary to what some of you critics are saying, he is getting better. He is more confident and demands the ball more, for club and country. Like someone said, he doesn't have the guys to feed off of, like the Fire had in his rookie year, 2000, when Beasley really blossomed among Nowak, Stoichkov, Wolff, Razov, etc.

Anyway, I don't think he is still here because MLS
is asking for too much money. There just is no money out there in European football. Look at how few players moved after the World Cup. Four years ago, if the USA had made the quarterfinals, half the team, including Beasley, would have gone to Europe.

Cause rap would be the usual route for the heretofore untalented. (See Shaq and Iverson).

Well, he would get a shot at Hamlet, depending on the particulars of the production, but I would never get a shot at Othello.

A black-cast OTHELLO with a white Othello was produced in DC (I think) about a year ago. It's no stranger than James Earl Jones playing Hickey in THE ICEMAN COMETH, which he did -- in whiteface. Which is no stranger than Lawrence Olivier doing Othello in blackface, which he did.

Which brings us back to DMB doing what?
