Rumors that Bedoya is signing with Phila. are disturbing. He's 29 and a national team right mid. Exactly fits one of our needs. We hold the #1 allocation spot. Jermaine Jones all over again. What gives? I like what Paunovic and Rodriguez are doing and I like the direction and composition of most of the Fire's on field moves. But this one doesn't make sense. Getting a little bit of TAM or GAM won't be enough. We better get major compensation if Bedoya only wants to play in Phil.
maybe letting them have all the prestige players for a song is how Andy keeps the other owners off his back for not investing in the Fire.
My guess is that they let them negotiate a deal, get everything settled and figured out and THEN swoop in, claim that you are interested. Claim your allocation spot and demand significant compensation. Sign the Armenian for a low price and make it look like you made out on the deal. Finish in last again, get a high draft pick again, get you suck money and sell your high draft pick. They're parasites and scavengers, they're scum.
And then have someone come out of the woodwork and say it was the best day of deal making in the Fire's history and that we gamed the system.
It's not like that Jack Harrison guy we so happily traded away is doing anything great in this league anyhow... .. .... ........ OH WAIT.
As you pointed out, both situations were portrayed as clever strategic moves. With Gilberto they claimed they made a move to benefit the team long term while being compensated. With Harrison it was last minute wheeling and dealing resulting in getting the better player and money. In both situations the Fire missed out on great opportunities to improve the team. One would've been long term and the other immediate. Drogba has 21 goals in 28 appearances. He only plays every other game because he's afraid to break all the MLS scoring records and feels that it's embarrassing to have a guy pushing 40 holding them. Jack Harrison is a star and leader on a team filled with legends of the game and is only 19 years old. He is also eligible to play in England and if he stays healthy will probably be sold to an EPL team for a fortune. These are career ending fvckups. Not being able to see the significant upside to Harrison over Vincent or Drogba over Gilberto shows severe incompetence. Instead of signing quality players, they're looking for bargains in obscure leagues and looking for loopholes to steal money from teams trying to improve their situation. It's a criminal mindset of looking for easy profits over hard work and intelligence.
I couldn't have said this any better. Hauptman actually devalues this entire league with what he does. I have no idea how other owners or Garber have not called him out on it.
