http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-News-Blog/Tv-Guide-News/Espn-Puts-Beckham/800022108 Will this be entertaining? Is it just a ratings boost for ESPN? Will becks be a good color commentator? Will we see wynalda, stone, DOB, tommy AND becks now? can all these questions be answered with a yes?
GEEE who ever is coming out with all these ideas to market Beckham in the US is a genious!!! (sarcasm) Although I have to say this will probably be just a one time thing for Beckham. I dont see him doing color commentary every Thursday for ESPN
Four people in the booth? One of whom could buy and sell the other three 23 times over? Sound promising? On one hand, having players in the booth is hardly a new occurence. On the other, rarely are they there for the whole match and ne'er-ly are they advertised for being there. Beckham can be so gruelingly "on message" and PR friendly that it could be an incredibly painful experience. Yet there is hope that the commitment he's shown in his fleeting minutes on the pitch could come through and he'd be a nice, big, fat homer for the G's during the whole telecast, which would be pretty funny.
my best guess is EW will be trying to blow him in the booth, so we wont be hearing him much, and if not im sure he'll be trying to atleast give him an HJ
Glenn Davis? And yeah, seems like it would be a one and done type thing seeing as they are playing in Los Angeles.
Glenn Davis >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dave "look it's Pablo Ruiz" and "what ever happened to Jason Wolff" O'Brien
nigh means near. Not sure if you're being facetious. This will be fun; I really hate Wynalda and O'Brien though. If we could get Derek Rae in there with Beckham and Smyth, I'd love it.
I wish he would go on PTI or something so they would stop bashing him. Sports Reporters find it hard to bash someone after meeting them.
I was thinking Beckham doesn't give a ********** about MLS. I think he's been mishandled (understatement of the year). Then I hear this and I think...maybe he really is committed.
With all due respect to Beckham, I don't think that spontaneously stringing words together to form coherent and insightful thoughts is really his strong suit. This will probably not be a good thing.
He's not that bad. His accent masks it for the average person. And besides there are famous American athletes who are far dumber than Beckham.
OK, let's see: DOBaseball, Onion Bag, Where's Waldo, Poor Allen Hopkins wandering the touchline, Derek Rae, Stoner somewhere nearby AND Becks? As Richard Dreyfus said in the film "Jaws" after seeing the size of the shark, "We're gonna need a bigger boat". ESPN's gonna need a bigger booth
I don't know where you got the thought that Beckham wasn't committed. There is legitimate debate about his skills and the impact he can have on a game, but no one would doubt his dedication. Didn't ManU take away his keys to the training complex because he was always there practicing?
Might as well have him the booth. During the DC-Chivas game, they talked about him as much as they did the actual game.
