Jesus! Beckham has been getting attacked by Pele, Maradona, Steve McClaren and now this guy:

"Former Inter Milan midfield ace Paul Ince says David Beckham was wrong to turn down AC Milan for LA Galaxy last year."

Just cause I'm bored and there is nothing better on TV but reruns of Three's Company... What would another Champion's League title as a fringe player on a team of all-stars do for him really? Here, he can put some ink in the history books

Beckham would not have been a fringe player for AC Milan. With Gattuso behind him, he could have splayed passes all over the park.

Oh, and the fashion in Milan is better ;)

Man, I wish people would stop posting links to that website - they NEVER site sources, and the website layout just makes the place look shady as hell (then again, they did say Ruiz was going to sign with Galaxy...alongside like, 10 other news sources).

If the quotes are indeed true and were uttered by their respective figures, then nothing like a druggie midget, a dumbass manager and the alpha example of selling out to an American soccer team to criticize Beckham.

Regarding Ince, his last comment especially backs up my theory that he's speaking from the perspective of a player - OF COURSE a player would be more challenged and engaged playing for one of the best and fabled teams in the world. AC Milan is already up there in the top echelon of clubs - they don't have to prove anything to anyone. In terms of David's reasons for choosing to play for the Galaxy, aside from the money and the draw of LA, I think he believes this is the best move for his family, and he genuinely believes in the MLS and its potential. Laugh if you want, but the guy is sincere.

Sure, Becks could have gone to AC Milan, and he would be playing with and against players better than he will see here. We all know that. From a purely "on field" perspective, Ince's comments are defensible.

    But why?

From Beckham's perspective, it's a case of "been there, done that."

He did it at ManUre. He did it at Real. Been there. Done that.

But making soccer popular in the US -- now THAT'S a challenge.

I echo TJ's comments about the American icons who dug the foundations, and took soccer from zero to where it is now. That was remarkable. Nothing here is meant to diminish that accomplishment.

But to move soccer beyond its current plateau...that may be very difficult indeed. Will the Beckham hoopla accomplish that in any meaningfor sense? Who knows. But I really believe that is the task Beckham has set for himself.

And from my very narrow and selfish prospective, if he can kick-start LAG into winning a few cups too, that would be a good thing.

to me what is most 'post worthy' in this thread is that people still read tribal football.

With Seedorf, Kaka, Pirlo and Serginho, Gourcuff, Ambrosini, along with the aforementioned Gattuso in the Milan midfield, I'd have to disagree with you, except maybe for your view on Milan's fashion. But let's say for a second Beckham surpassed himself and became a superstar in Milan, yeah maybe he'd win another champion's league title, being the first person (I think) since Seedorf and Deco, to win one with two clubs, then what? Is there that much difference between one title and two? I mean, unless he stuck around for another few years, and Milan won the champion's league every year there after, thereby tying Becks with Paolo Maldini as the most winning player since Gento, he just be another footnote in AC Milan's history. But there a way too many maybes and variable factors in there for me to think that would happen. Better for him to come here and be a savior for us starved American soccer fans. Here, he's bigger than the Beatles
