I don't know if anyone else was watching FSW Report on Monday night(6/9/03), but at the end of the broadcast, the Scottish analyst that they have(I forget his name) predicted that Beckham would most likely end his Soccer playing days in MLS. And he said that it would be likely that he'd be wearing a GALAXY jersey in 5-7 years. Those are his words, not mine, but it is something to think and dream about. In reality, it doesn't sound all that absurd.

    Happy Discussion!:)

Since his wife thinks she can act, she would want to be near in Hollywood. If this does happen, he will either go to LA or New York for obvious reasons.

I hope he's not too disappointed when he comes on as a late sub and Freddy Adu, coming off, neglects to acknowledge him while applauding the fans.

There have been only a few internationals that I would love to see in MLS. 3-4 years ago it was Baggio or Weah. Now, its Beckham or Zidane.

    I'm not holding my breath.

Well he has kids to think about and he has to decide does his family want to live in the US especially LA. If so, then I think it would be great to see a 32 year old Beckham in a Galaxy kit. He is not Pele, but he is still the most recognizable active soccer player in the world today.

He loves fame too much. I just don't see it happening.

i hope playing in front of 16,000 barely audible fans week in and week out doesn't go to his head.

Then after the press conference, Posh promptly told him "forget that nonsense". :)

I think it was mostly Beckham being Beckham. Pandering to the crowd, so to speak. He's said similar things about other places.

Let's just change the name of MLS to WRL(World Retirement League) and bring in all of the "over-the-hill" soccer players:rolleyes:

Beckham's net worth right now is $76 million. It looks like he is going to nix this trade, but it really doesn't matter honestly. In 4 years, if he still feels like playing, he can play for whoever he feels like, and not worry about the money, his sneaker company will take care of it. In 4 years, his net worth will be probably double what it is now.

Wifey wants to be a celebrity. Beckham will have 100 million plus in the bank. He is going to Hollywood. From what I heard, one of the enticements Roma is offering, is a tv interview show in Rome starring Mrs Beckham. Could be a reason why Becks turned down the Barca offer, but doesn't mean he isn't willing to move.

I wouldnt mind seeing beckham in the MLS because of his spotlight in the media, not really his talent so much. But how about these retirees were bringing over start having some kids while their here to provide a nice gene pool for future u.s. nats. Beckham Jr in 2026!

Beckham wants to wind up his career playing on Victoria St.? Makes sense to me. How will his wife take it?

Beckham would be absolutely great for MLS, if he came now. But we know that'll never happen. I for one do not wish to see the MLS become the WRL.

Have you heard of the rumor that Steinbrenner has come to terms with Beckham? Once Steinbrenner gets elected to be the director of MLS, Becks will be wearing a Metros jersey. I have not been able to find any response from ManU yet!

They had two Beckham pieces on CNN this week too.
There is a way he could play here now but it won't happen. Similar to the way Hong came to LA.
Sponsors getting involved. A big sponsor(s) who would have a large marketing interest in Beckham would simply pay the transfer and supplement his salary. It would be big money but it is a way around the salary "cap".
If Clairol wanted to make Becks their new lead for their hair campaign, for example, along with a Japanese TV corp and Nike, etc. and they saw the potential of the US market for him while maintaining foreign interest. :)
Not going to happen but just saying it's not impossible. He wouldn't want to play in MLS at this point, for one thing.
No need to jump on me as I'm just pointing out a possiblitly that is full of "buts", as I know.

The problem is America doesn't care about Beckham and they aren't going to care about Beckham, and they could give a crap about his lip syncing wife.

I love Becks, but a shoe company isn't going to give him anything close to the money it would take to make up his football salary, because he will have zero impact on the US market.

But I would love to see him in MLS, even at 32. Its just not going to be money/fame that gets it done.

While I agree that I don't want MLS turning into a retirement league (already a huge misconception among people who don't follow the league) there are a select few players that would be good to have in the league at the age of 34, 35 whatever. Beckham certainly is one if only for the type of character he is - the league needs interesting players like him that people might take an interest in.
