He kicked Diego Simone while he was on the ground after play had stop. Obviously a wind up from Simone, one of the games biggest snakes... Don't have a vid but he gets pretty in depth about the incident in his autobiography.

It was a nothing incident really, just a flick with the boot as he was lying on the ground following a foul from Simeone (for which he got a yellow). However players had already been sent off in that tournament for minor offences so Beckham can have no complaints about it.

On his return to England he was absolutely vilified and received awful abuse up and down the country whenever Man Utd played away. West Ham fans hung an effigy of him outside a pub in the East End. He even got stick whilst playing for England and in all honesty could have simply wilted under the pressure.

He deserves immense credit for taking the abuse and going on to prove himself on the pitch as captain of his national team.

Shame he had to throw away all the respect he had earned by adopting ridiculous girly haircuts :p

Have you noticed Beckham and the South Americans aren't best chums, especially the Argies?

    1st England goal v Colombia - i believe
    1st Red Card v Argentina
2nd Red Card (Man U) against Necaxa (okay, North America) but it was in Rio (Brazil) and the guy he tackled was South American I seem to remember.
Deportivo's Aldo Duscher (Arg) put Beckham's World Cup in jeopardy.
Nevertheless Beckham scores the pen that effectively put Argetina out
Had a good ol' bitch with Scaloni in Real v Depor
Sent off for a nothing tackle against big haired Aimar in the Copa del Rey semi final 1st leg against Valencia.

Surely there'll be more to come.

I agreed with you that it was a flick with the boot, but Beckham should have no complaints about it. I always thought that the red card was one of the most clear red card in WC history.

But his PR(or Posh's PR)has pretty much erased the fact that his own stupid mistake gave him the RED.... in recent years, people talked of the incident as if Simeone masterminded the whole thing.

I think most people will readily admit that Beckham deserved to be sent off, and that the red card was his own fault.

At the same time, Simeone played a large part. First of all he fouled Beckham (for which he was subsequently shown a yellow card) and then as he got up he pushed Beckham into the floor with the flat of his hand.

When Beckham kicked out at him he collapsed as if he had been shot. So while Beckham can have no complaints, he can certainly hold a grievance against Simeone.

Yeah, I know what Simeone did.

Trust me. I know people thought that Beckham did not do anything on that play....

IIRC didn't Beckham's boot not even come close to Simeone's face? I want to say he didn't even touch the guy but I'm too lazy to go pull out the tape of the match.

Talking about South Americans going down holding their face, hoorah for Rivaldo, still my favourite dive of the last few years

His boot flicked the back of Simeone's calf.

Yes, he did not even touch Simeone, but it did not change anything whether Simeone got hit or not(with or without play acting). The point is .... Beckham did try to kick at Simeone and it was a red card offense. The ref was just a few feet away looking on. beckham had no chance. I thought that he was stupid. At the same WC Finals, Zidane did step on a Saudi defender and got sent off.... he was at least smarter because he did hurt the defender. Bergkemp actually got away with his....
