I think Beckham is a bit over-rated. He does have some of the best passes-crosses-through balls, etc., but I dont see him dominating a mid-field unless he is playing a team of less talent. In the 2002 Argentina game, I didn't see much of him, actually, the whole ENGLAND SQUAD (!) was back in defense mode, they got that lucky break and who takes the penalty.....Beckham, ONLY because of what happened in '98. If it was any other team, I think Owen would've taken it or maybe somebody else. Beckham is good, but not GREAT, only against lower class teams.
We have had this discussion on here endlessly before - Beckham was only about 70% fit for the World Cup, he had broken a bone in his foot which as you can probably imagine is quite a drawback for a footballer. He is world class and would get into most teams in the world. When the pressure is on he almost invariably delivers and that is what makes a great player (and I know he had a crap game against Real the other day).
Eh? How many chances did the Argies create? One header from a corner. If Argentina were so great anyway they'd have had the ability to break down the defence. Have you suddenly forgotten Owen hitting the post and Sheringhams volley at the end of a move that made Argentina look Sunday League. Argentina had a fantastic side though didn't they? They lost to England and Sweden.
Re: Re: Beckham Issue They lost only to England against a bunker defence team after a dive from Owen.
Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue We only defended deep in the last 10 minutes.. the argies only had one shot on target in the entire game. Sweden on the other hand, defended with every man behind the ball for the entire game against the argies..they managed to scrape a lucky draw. But they got slapped by the "mighty" senegal in the next round so it didnt really matter. What a bunch of jokers.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue you should admire senegal for defeating sweden, they did what england isn't capable of doing
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue No ,I dont admire senegal. They're just an average african team. Having a good or bad record against a small time outfit like sweden means nothing at the end of the day.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue having a bad record against an oufit means that you are even a smaller outfit
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue Not really... norway have a positive record over Brazil...(for example) that says it all really... Losing to a team from the depths of africa in the world cup is hugely embarrassing.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue not having defeated sweden for almost 4 decades is even more embarrassing
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue Not for me it isnt.... I wouldnt exchange a poor record against the turnips for a world cup defeat to senegal. I dont think I could look myself in the mirror if I supported a team that got beat by senegal in the world cup.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Beckham Issue at least we didn't got beat by england i don't think i could look myself in the mirror if i supported a team that hasn't defeated sweden for almost four decades
England are overrated, egotistical and triumphalist. I'd like to see England try and beat team U.S.A now.
The debate was england vs. argentina.. Typical egotistical yanks...cant write a post without mentioning themselves and bigging themselves up. Sickening IMHO.
sweden, the same 'small time' outfit that england , often hyped as a 'big time' team, still hasnt beaten in 30-some odd years
Fixed your post, you shouldn't get involved in things unless you know the history behind it... like this England/Sweden debate for example.
