"No other English footballer has ever made it big over there,'' Beckham told the magazine. "I'd love to be well known in America. The American people are so patriotic about their teams and their sports -- more so than anywhere else in the world.

Saw this on ESPN site. I think I would be rather patriotic to see him in a Quakes jersery!

I can just see it now...Beckham, clad in Quake blue, lines up at the corner flag at Spartan, spots a tube of hair gel on the ground in front of a fan's seat, picks it up and quickly applies a new coat before swinging in a kick.

Beckham, playing for an MLS team?! Maybe after the 2010 World Cup...
Maybe he meant coming over here with Man U to play friendlies against MLS squads, the guy is in the prime of his career! He has many more fine years ahead of him...

    Keep dreaming Quakes221..

I want to thank David Beckham for saying that.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt either that American fans have deep pockets! If only us teams would sell as fast as those friendly tickets sold.

Once again we seem to me making a quantum leap...Becks says he wants to be well known in America and instantly we think he's coming to MLS. I'm sure that statement was made only relative to ManU's upcoming USA tour (which, of course, includes NO MLS friendlies)...not any impending free transfer to Landonville. Unfortunately, I must agree with IBT.

Beckham loves the US, he vacations over here all the time. After 9/11 he wanted to wear a stars and stripes captain's armband when England played a few days later to show support, but the buerocrat Eurotrash ****s at FIFA didn't let him

All wrong, Spart. I can see him walking in right now and saying "Give me the MLS minimum, as long as I can play in the US, I will survive on the $25,000 a year."
    You're just too realistic. :D

We all know what colors he'd be wearing his first game. Piss yellow and garbage green. Fuggedaboutit.

He wants to be famous in the US? Well, go buy yer tickets for Bend it Like Beckham and enjoy the flick.

It ain't really about him but its a good movie anyway.

    Not any time soon...

Becks commands a lot of attention in Japan as well--he also mentioned that he wanted to play there...

Seriously he would have to win a World Cup and then play in a huge media market (Metrostars? MLS Cosmos? Galaxy?) if he wants to garner media attention and a look from fans of the other sports.

If he plays for LA, expect him to get booed loudly. :D

I don't expect him to take a corner kick, swipe a swig of beer (or Pepsi?), boot the ball and then it goes in for a goal.

    Cheers!

While we're on the topic of Becks and the US, he and Victoria are going to be on 20/20 this Friday.

I want to second that. The kind of movie you want to see if you're feeling a bit down. I'm thinking of going to see it again--and I'd like to get the DVD.

I think Beckham will play where the missus wants him to play. Madrid or Milan is next, I suspect, but maybe in five years....

If it's here in the States, he's already played a little in Brooklyn....

I say he and Posh can pick up Pat Onstad and drive their Shaguar in a straight line down Route 1.

    Actually Posh can stay.
