what's beckerman's deal? I know he's been injured quite a bit, but he was once considered one of the rising stars in Bradenton... a guy who could eventually fill Claudio Reyna's shoes.
Does anyone see Beckerman becoming a legitimate star(ter) in MLS?

I want Beckerman to be the real deal, but have we actually seen anything to show this from him in a Raps jersey? Until he gets himself in the starting lineup we won't know. With Chung, Grimandi, Henderson, Mastro ahead of him, it could be a while.

KYle has talent but he needs a little luck and playing time. He can't catch a break in mls. He plays in the midfield. In Miami he had bishop, pablo, henderson, chacon, preki in front of him- All all-stars that year-where was he suppose to play?? Noone got injured Then last year on colorado there was again -pablo, henderson, pibe and chung to fight for a spot. They were the midfield all-stars. Where was he suppose to get a true shot??? Were they going to sit players making the big bucks??? If he continues to be called up for under 23's and doesn't again get a chance for playing time then I would think he would ask to be traded to another team where he could really have a true chance to fight for time. It took Dunseth three teams to finally get alot of time.

Beckerman can be a legitimate star... time... he needs playing time. I lobbied a bit last year for it when Carlos was dogging it toward the end of the regular season. If Kyle Beckerman got serious playing time and was able to string together the flashes he's shown, he'd eclipse Claudio Reyna (and Reyna is the man). Beckerman had the goal of the year last year against the Whitecaps, unrivaled by anything in the league. I think he'll play now with Carlos saying goodbye...

Wes Hart almost every game for the Rapids last season, generally in midfield. Once the Rapids acquired Kingsley, he made it onto the field in pretty much every game, starting a good number of them.

For whatever reason, it seems that Beckerman hasn't made the right kind of impression with Hankinson.

For all the talent/potential that Beckerman may have as an attacking and/or playmaking center mid it may also be the thing that is currently keeping his minutes low -- any young player who can't play in a variety of positions is going to have a hard time cracking a lineup, whether as starter or sub.

The most unfortnate thing about last season with Beckerman is that Valderrama was never subbed off. Hankinson could have been giving Becks a good 10-15 minutes in his prime position -- or more -- in each game. Oh well.

Kyle just need playing time. He has played outside mid for the 23's . For another thing noone could figure out hankinson last year. He kept getting international that didn't work out.He acquired unneeded midfield in palacio-who was to be our international star-who is waived now!! Stewart starts for three months then gets bench for herdsman(maybe played 5 mins up to that point). Hart goes to defense, Kingsley starts at right mid and then by the end of season hart and kingsley came off the bench too!

That Palacios signing really confused me, especially when we already had Beckerman in the midfield as a back-up.

This was my biggest complaint about Hankinson last year. There were games where Pibe clearly quit, and yet he stayed in.

Also, as Phills pointed out, Palacios was a mystery. He seemed like a good player, but with Mastroeni, Hart, and Beckerman.... Why?

Was this the game played at the Colorado School of Mines field? I don't remember it being against the Whitecaps, but Beckerman's goal in that game was the sweetest I have ever seen. Half the crowd didn't know we had scored, 'cause less than a second before, Beckerman was taking the ball across the half field line.

It wasn't until the very end of the season/playoffs that Hart played as part of the backline. Once the team was fully healthy, Kingsley was relegated to the role of sub but Hart started 9 of the last 10 games of the season, including the playoffs.

The lone time he didn't start was for the first playoff game at Dallas -- the game in which Valderrama scores 2 minutes in and we proceed to allow 4 straight goals.

    Yet another mind-boggling lineup decision.

Actually, I thought Palacios was brought in for dmid cover while Pablo was in Korea, and also cover at right mid/back (no Kingsley then, and Stewart still raw). I never expected him to be a star, but thought he was a fair signing to improve what at the time looked to be a severe lack of depth.

    A League

Beckerman's lack of speed demands that he play in a covered position in the center of the park and if he can't get playing time there he needs to be loaned out to an A-League team for some games to prove his worth.

there is more to soccer than just speed... comments from coaches on beckerman have been his vison on the field Everyone on european teams don't all play because they are so speedy. I certainly wouldn't call reyna a speedster. Sometimes United states fan feel that a "good' player i one who runs all over with speed but that's all the do- run around. He will never get alot playing time with chung, henderson, pablo, grimandi on this team. They won't be benched so beckeman can play. He could fight for real playing time on a team that doesn't have these all-stars...I hope he gets his chance on a new team.

I'm not ready to see Beckerman starting, but it would be nice if he could get some reasonable time as a sub, which I think has been the general complaint around here. Beckerman should have had more time last year, especially in those games where Carlos had gave up on the team.
