http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/10/30/playoffs-profile-carroll-pays-his-dues-union Never missed the MLS Playoffs. We've missed four straight, ever since we let him go. Thx, Jay!
I thought that Carroll was trying to play overseas, maybe France, so he was out the door as far as MLS purposes were concerned. Obviously that fell through but I remember that being the talk at the time.
I thought Simms was the younger, cheaper better long term option at DM and after a year or two Carroll became expendable/tradable. Now Kitchen is starting to repeat history.
Seriously? I have *no* memory of that. Not saying you're wrong at all; but I don't remember that. What I *do* remember is people around here saying "trade Carroll, or expose him in the expansion draft; we've got Simms and he's better."
I don't remember any of the overseas possibilities for BC, either. I do remember him having an off year when we switched from a 3-5-2 to the 4-4-2 scheme. After he got dinged up, Simms started and was playing better in the 4-4-2, and that lead to some folks talking about moving BC.
He went on trial with one or two European clubs, didn't get any offers and re-signed with us. I don't remember if that was the same year we left him unprotected in the expansion draft.
he went to france in 2007 and had a trial with a fairly big team there and i was told that while the trial went well his wife didn't want to move overseas.
You know, if you actually read the article I started the whole thread about, the France stuff is covered in it pretty specifically. Now if you are all talking about the timeline and the prevailing opinions on the board, all I can remember is the sweater shit taking over the discussion, much like every other thread disintigrates here, although a little less so, recently. Thx, Jay!
You know, if you actually considered what people are saying here, what was being discussed was what his plans were *when we left him unprotected*. Yr Wlcm, Bootsy!
