Simple answer. Trump wants Greenland before Russian and China take it. Denmark, the little spot on the global map has never done anything with the territory and now they all of a sudden want it. The USA has wanted the land since Harry Truman, a democrat was president.
Have Russia or China ever expressed interest? Do you honestly believe China or Russia with their hands tied in Ukraine would invade Greenland and face the wrath of NATO?
Both China and Russia have their ships in the region and knowing their Communist regimes, I don't see why they wouldn't want it especially since it is so close to North America. Of course they want the territory.
Donald Trump is doing everything someone compromised by Putin would be doing. Trump's been on about NATO, threatening to pull out of it, criticizing other nations spending since Day 1 of the campaign trail in 2016. Hardly doubt he thought it alone. Putin telling him all along. FWIW, I do believe it is unfair that the US spends far more on NATO than everyone else. But there no way Trump thought of this alone. Putin doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO so if they are divided (ie; one attacks another), or USA pulls out, he wins.
Strategically, so they can overtake North America or at least prevent them from expanding. China is even worse an enemy that Russia. They aren't thinking about now but for the next 100-200 years. I don't see how NATO doesn't want to side with America on this issue and also, they are nothing without the USA. NATO exists and was formed solely to be protected by the USA against Russia. They are either with the USA or with Russia-China and I don't see why they would not want to be with the Americans. Of course they want this.

In this neck of the woods, there is nowhere else to expand unless they take over Canada which isn't far from reality. Canada is another country who is nothing without the USA.
