The west made manufacturing to expensive. you know the biggest issue is the west cannot manufacture anything… well maybe Germany can but not at the scale the east can. The world has become a slave to China.
I watched that debate when he called China the biggest security threat and I definitely remember it. But this is what I mentioned way back in April/ May on this very board. Trump acting the way he was has forced Canada and others to look to China and only make them stronger. Instead all Western democracies should be sticking together against BRICS. We'd love nothing to get back to the old relationship but you guys are toxic.

The tariffs are supposed to encourage home grown manufacturing but unfortunately the damage is done there is no fixing it because we drilled into a whole generation of people to get college degrees most of which are useless so even if you built manufacturing here in the USA most Americans won’t work them because they were told “blue collar jobs are bad”. my dad would always say this “meglio una penna in mano che una zappa” he always added this “ma il contadino ha sempre cibo sul tavolo” pretty much saying a desk job isn’t the only thing out there.
I don't disagree that China becoming a manufacturing superpower has ********ed us. 3/4's of the shit they make is all knock off's. I had to change a component in my bathroom fixture (the thing is only 4 years old). Removed it and brought it to the plumbing store. The guy couldn't make out the manufacturer. Finally found out it was from China. Replacement part just as crap. The intellectual property theft they do is unreal. They don’t invent anything. Just copy others and provide it cheaper. In theory Trump is correct to build at home. Really should have never got away from it. Same here. A friend and I have this conversation all the time how all the factories here are closed. Like night and day when we were young.
My theory is they were hoping China would eventually move away from communism to capitalism…by flooding money in the hands of the people because Korean War showed the USA that beating China directly would take a lot of death or nukes. also unions… they got to greedy… I’m in a union and they really don’t care about the workers… they care about union dues and are getting more and more involved in politics…
Now if an American company wanted to makes hammers for example there is no way they’re make money… to many cheap options…

Fentanyl is one of the biggest issues plaguing this country. I live in one of the worst cities hit by this drug. I’ve known people who have died because whatever they were taking was laced with the stuff.
