Beat's Starting 11 vs. NY

    My prediction

    Scurry - Keeper
    Gaston - Left Back
    Nonen - Center
    N. Augustyniak - Center
    Bivens - Right back
    Miller- Def. Center
    Serlenga - Center
    Sawa - Center
    Parlow - Center
    Pohlers - Forward
    Hooper - Forward

    First off the bench - Dieke for Gaston or Miller
    Second - Burt or Dominguez for Pohlers

    So is this the official pre-game thread?

    And do we need a PBP either in here or the Power forum since this will be carried on both CSS and one of the NY channels or are we all cool with no PBP for Saturday?

    My only change from your proposed lineup is Dieke instead of Miller. I think Miller will be used in a sub roll in this match..probably around the 60th minute or so.

    Dominguez also comes in sometime after the 50th minute. My guess would be in for Pohlers.

    If Parlow is gassed sometime in the second half I see Burt coming in.

    Yes, will anyone be willing to do a PBP for us that don't get CSS or FoxSports NY?

    I think Dieke will be important in this game. Ideally, she will stretched NY's defence and cross to the middle looking for a flick on from Parlow to Hooper or Pohlers to finish. She may even get a few goals of her own if she continues to play the way she did in that exhibition that I can't remember the name of...

    The wusa pbp is so bland. Have you ever seen one??? I would much prefer a volumteer commentator here.

    The WUSA.com pbp, albeit better than nothing for folks without TV, is really lacking. MY PBP's on the other hand do kick ass but sometimes they are a pain in the ass to do. Sometimes they are fun and sometimes they ain't. If one is not needed then I won't do one cuz it would be a waste of my time. But if enough people chime in I'll do one on Saturday.

    My starting 11 would be as follows. (in a 4-2-2-2)

    ------------------Scurry

    Dieke------Nonen-------N.Augustyniak----Gaston

    ------Bivens-----------------Serlenga

    ---------Sawa----------Dominguez

    ---------Hooper---------Pohlers


    The main subs would be Parlow for Hooper and Crumpton for Pohlers. I know that people may be up in arms about the fact that I wouldn't start Parlow and I know coach Stone would never do this. I just think that Cindy needed to show a little more spark last year. Maybe a bit of competition for playing time would light a fire under her. If she starts, then I would put her in Dominguez' spot. I think this lineup combines veteran stability with exciting new players.

    Parlow would most definitely start; I think Stone will still prefer to have her presence up top as a withdrawn forward. Pohlers or Dominguez will start and sub each other out.

    Parlow will definitely start. Could you actually imagine Stone not starting her. There would be hell to pay from many angles.

    Bivens will also be at the back. Stone definitely wants to utilize her out of the back, she's too valuable back there, plus I think she still wants to fight to prove herself for the national team.

    And at the back is the only place she has a chance of playing for April.

    In Poachin's lineup, I'd switch Bivens and DIeke and put Parlow in for Dominguez.

    I might even go with Antongiovanni at withdrawn mid and Parlow up front.

    antongiovanni has done well in preseason

    Well it looks like Hooper has snagged one of the captains armbands for this season. I would guess Bri is still the other one?

    geezus when i saw "hooper snagged" you scared the living daylights outta me! ACL nightmares!!!

    Anyways, why do you think she will be captain?

    As I have not seen any of the new players play yet I wil not venture a guesson the starting lineup.

    However it would not be unexpected to see the play VERY aggressive with the team's additions and the strength of the defense overall.

    No matter what the formation actually is I expect it to play much like an aggressive 4-3-3 or even 3-4-3 as at least one defender will be pushing forward and the shape pf the play will be dictated by that.

    With the talent the Beat has they may even try to clog the midfield area by playing much like a 3-5-2.

    As far as a PBP it would need to come from someone with FSNY not CSS as the CSS broadcast will be tape delayed 3 hours.

    I will not be able to help, most probably, as I have to work untill 8:00 PM unless something changes. :( :(

    Can someone explain how the Beat has evolved tactic wise from day one to now please? Thanks. It's a question I've been meaning to ask about all teams.

    This coming from a NY fan... I wouldn't be surprised if ATL wins this one. I say that because NY is missing 2 key players in their lineup for this year... Peters, attacking mid and Salisbury, central Defender (think possiblely the next closest thing to Gro Espeseth)

    But be ready for a battle!!!!
    NY is a whole different team this year!

    If we are trying to guess a final score then I guess:

    Atlanta 4 - NY 1

    NY just has not improved much and Atlanta has added quite a bit of firepower. This combined with Atlanta's solid defense will, I believe, make for a VERY one sided game.

    NY's one goal will happen late when Nonen does walkabout and a NY forward (Guess who) blows by her for an easy goal.

    Of course, as I said in another thread, NY is the one team I hope against hope I have mis-read. If they are as weak as I think they are then the league will be less interesting but a strong NY will make for a MUCH better season.

    Hooper as captain?? I would have suspected Serlenga would have been captain. Hooper isn't a bad choice, but Nikki has stepped up as the most vocal and on-field leader, IMO.

    Not sure of starters but I call it....
