Sun Wen and Sawa Homare each scored a goal as their respective sides cruised to easy victories intheir first match in the AFC Championships.

China took a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back in a 6-0 victory over Viet Nam.

Japan simply drubbed the Philippines 15-0 in their opening match.

One girl in that match scored SEVEN goals. Perhaps Stone should have picked her up. BTW, she is kind of cute, though not nearly as tough as Sawa.

    Just to summarize.

Sawa scored two in a win over a much improved Guam side. She has three on the tournament.

Sun scored SIX against an overmatched Indian team. She has seven on the tournament and is tied for the goal scoring lead.

    WAR SAWA!
    WAR SUN!

Sawa tallied another in Japan's 7-0 victory over Myanmar. She is being overshadowed by Mio Otami who scored two more in the tournament for a total of nine thus far.

    Sawa scores two

Sawa Homare scored two more goals in her AFC Women's Championship campaign in a crucial 5-0 win over Taiwan :( This puts Japan in the semi-finals and makes Taiwan's road (due largely to inability to put the ball in the net) to the semi-finals very much an uphill battle. North Korea would have to defeat the South by double digits, and Taiwan would need a similiar win over Myanmar.

    Is Sun Wen fully fit?

She has scored seven or eight goals (lost count) in three matches in this tournament. We shall get a better indication when they play South Korea on Thursday. Also, her Chinese coach is playing her in a more offensive position, where Stone never played her. Hence, she is scoring goals.

Sun Wen scored the third goal for China in its 3-1 semi-final victory over South Korea. Bai Jie (formerly of Washington) scored the first two of the match before Sun sealed the deal for China.

Sawa (like the rest of her Japanese teammates) was held scoreless in a 3-0 loss to North Korea.

Japan will play South Korea in the third place match and an automatic qualifier (the loser will play a home-and-home against Mexico) while China plays North Korea for the title. Both matches are scheduled for Sunday.

Go Japan!! The Beat don't need to lose both Sawa and Maribel while they are making a run for the playoffs.

This would be pretty bad, wouldn't it. South Korea has been playing VERY well in this tournament. In the past, I would have said this should be a gimmie for Japan. Now, I expect this to be a tough match.

1-0 South Korea at halftime over Japan. If this result holds, we will lose Homare AND MAribel for the home and home next month.

Ignore what this first part used to say I had the two Koreas confused. I HATE AISIAN POLITICS, I can never seem to keep it straight. Oh well, my problem not theirs.

    Final 1:0 Korea
    But the rest still holds.

It is now Mexico/Japan for the last spot in the WWC.

This is supposed to be home/home series so it could be as many as three Beat games involved. Most probably just two. and maybe only one. There was a home/home played for a Europe spot that was only 5 days appart (might have been even less) BUT that was not half a world appart.

The Beat will just have to make do.
