Berwyn Blazers is moving to South Carolina Jamar signed with Charleston. I wonder is he's going to be able to start there? I sincerely wish Jamar the best of luck. If he can score 20 goals or more this year he may get another look from MLS.
Jesus Cristo Rey... Andy Lewis? Jamar Beasley? They used to have Waldo...I think Dusty Hudock played for us too, or at least sat the bench. Also, the press release makes mention of Jamar in Italy...did he ever actually PLAY for that team?
We also had Justin Evans but he won't be returning this year. As for him starting,I haven't really figured out our midfield this year yet, but we start preseason this Sat. Ryan Trout, Ted Chronopolous, and Seamus Donnelly are all good midfielders but they all can play somewhere else just as comfortably (Trout and Donnelly up top, Chrono on D) We have a tough squad this year, but I think he has a good chance. Especially if we were as injury prone as we were last season. The Battery are the team to beat this year in the a-league, and I think would match very well with most MLS teams this season. We'll see come USOC time. Mikey
What position did he mainly play with you? Is he more forward or mid? We need more help in the middle of the field, did he play any center mid?
IIRC, Dusty also used to hit crosses to Zach during warm-ups. The funny thing is, I think that this Charleston line-up, transported back in time to 1996, would've contended for MLS Cup. Now, they'd be a shoe-in to miss the playoffs. For JBG: I remember Jamar playing more up top, but I could be blurring his time with the Fire with the time he spent playing for the Revs.
Interesting, MLS says he played in 18 games, 727 minutes and scored 11 points. Pretty good scoring average from the bench.
Doesn't seem so bad compared to our scoring this preseason. I think what they're saying JBG is here on the Fire board, we can't be bothered with your trivial A-League questions.
Oh, sorry, I thought we were still talking about his time in MLS as a whole here. Not everyone may be aware that I was able to watch his steady decline into mediorcity firsthand as a Revs supporter prior to moving to Chicago, which seriously colors my vision on him. Apparently it also colors my vision of his brother, who frankly doesn't impress me much. He's like an American Welton when you put him in the attack. He does have defensive assets though, but people just whine and complain when DaMarcus plays there. Hey, you want him, you've got him. Don't ask me to give you reasons to like him though.
I remember his first appearance with the Revs: didn't he score, or at least set up a goal? But in general, you're right: his decline was steady and pretty much started from the beginning. I attribute much of that to Walter Zenga, though, who seemed to put Jamar into matches around the 80th minute, and tell him to run around a lot. As a result, he didn't develop a lot of his game, and when he came to the Fire... well, we had other things to worry about besides bringing along the older of the two Beasley brothers. He's still young. I like him. I hope he does well enough to get another shot at MLS. But he'll have to work his ass off and get very lucky if he's to have a good career and not be the future answer to a damn hard trivia question about DaMarcus's older brother.
I understand we get your sloppy seconds down here in the Bush Leagues, I'm just trolling here for some tidbits. I actually remember watching a Fire game on TV and Blondie came in late. Seems like he had a goal, maybe an assist in about 10 minutes of work. Kinda odd though to be thinking about a 23 year old who some people think is already washed up. However, our coach does have a rep as a pretty good teacher so, I'll be interested to see what he makes of JB.
I guess my frustration is that there have always been things "hinted" at here whenever Jamar has been discussed (you can see that on this thread) and I'm not "inside" enough to know what it's about.
According to MLSNet: "Project-40 wunderkind Jamar Beasley became the youngest MLS player to appear in a league game at just 18 years and 10 months, playing the final 18 minutes of the game. Beasly made an immediate impact, forcing Galaxy defender Paul Caligiuri to take down Beasley in the box in the 75th minute. Revolution forward Raul Diaz Arce missed the penalty kick." So, his auspicious start was to be fouled. He was credited with an assist in the 89th minute on a Diaz-Arce goal (so was Ivan)...of course by that point is was far too late, as we were already down by five goals to LA. Damn that was a dismal season. Actually, pretty much every season was dismal in Revsland (left after the 1999 season). Can't say I'm terribly unhappy to be here now. Scary thing is that 18 sounds pretty old for a P40 player now.
If I'm remembering correctly, he put that cross right on Diaz-Arce's forehead. But I remember causing about the only concern of the day. Still, I don't disagree with you, but I think he has time to get something that resembles a career going.
We always thought he looked like Invisible Boy from the movie Mystery Men. note - Edited Movie Title - although original mistake of Mysery Men might have been funnier...
