Hiddink is bitter because Arena was talking smack about how Australia sucks, so Guus is taking it out on DaMarcus to undermine our chances at WC2006.

Off the highlights vs. NEC, there was a play where he was also dispossessed quite easily where he had a lot of space to his left but instead chose to barge straight ahead.

Is DMB getting considerably behind Farfan, Culina and now Vayrinen for the spot next to Kone and VofH?

I wonder if Beasley was marked by Mastrojovic (spelling?) again. I could see him maybe being a little hesitant to go all out against him after his nasty injury last time.

And he started in the most important CL games when he was healthy. I don't see any reason to forecast his demise after one game. Didn't he get a goal and go 90 a couple of days ago???

From what I've seen of Beasley this year, he has added improved one-on-one skills to his game.Let's not forget the Champion's League AC Milan in which he positively schooled Jaap Stam.

Behind Vayrinen? After four matches, I don't think so. Culina? what has he done? Farfan? Well, DMB has been behind him for a year now, so nothing is changing there.

Frankly, without seeing the context of Hiddink's remarks, I'm not worried. I gather he was asked about his halftime substitutions, and he explained simply that Beasley wasn't getting the job done today. He neither excused it nor made a bigger deal out of it than it was.

Worry not. Beasley's spot in the starting XI is solid.

That's because Farfan was rested, at least for the first 45.

I also wouldn't underrate his competition ... which is a good thing. Really.

Well, Culina is a different kind of player, he's playing the role Park was playing last year, linking midfielders and forwards. Väyrynnen is also such a player, so both are not directly competition for Beasley's position.

Exactly, they just asked him why he took off Beasley. Hiddink didn't make a big deal out of it, he just said it in a "next time better" kind of way.

I wouldn't be too confident, Hiddink probably starts Koné-Vennegoor-Farfán if each of them are fit. However, with the Africa-cup comming up you'll never know how Koné returns.

I am finding SFS is not so bullish on American players. Just ignore it. He is a polite poster.

You are in Holland so you would know better, but from the matches I have seen Kone play, he seems to have trouble seeing anything but shots. Looks kinda Pando Ramirez to me.

culina and vayrynen normally won't be in the competition for front line spots, although both can fill in there

either way, nobody should get too wound up over one bad game

well... you also have to factor in that kone could not play CL during the first half of the season, so he got certain starts in the league before a european game - i think for the second half, the left side spot is open to take between kone and DMB, with kone now available for europe

I'm personally not too fond of Koné, he's still a diamond in the rough but I'm starting to worry that it's not going to change for a long time.
But with that pricetag I can't imagine Hiddink putting him on the bench.

And who knows what Hiddink comes up with in the winter transferperiod.

Interesting that this should be the second matchup between the two sides. When an opponent knows what he's bringing (remember that lack of 1 v 1 Hiddink was deploring), he's less effective. The same is also true for other players but Beasley's game is more predictable and his lack of size doesn't give him many options. Was Hiddink letting off steam or maybe firing a shot across Beasley's bow?

In the category of unpopular opinions, I do not think that Hidnick's system is the right one for DMB. As posted earlier, DMB, though he can run at defenders and can score, is at his best when he doesn't have to do this all of the time. Hidnick's use of him at a wing forward fails to make maximum use of two of his best atributes -- making off-the ball runs from slightly deeper positions and his ability to cover on defense.

I am not saying that Beasley won't play much at PSV or that he is not doing well -- all the success he has had is a credit to his ability to adopt his game to the demands of this role. I am saying that in a competitive situation like PSV, playing a role that is not perfectly suited for his skills, he will always be in significant danger of losing his starting position (and probably will have spells when he does lose it, as he has had in the past). It doesn't mean that he is not a very good player.

I generally agree with this. However, I think it's great that Bease is being forced to change his game -- basically, to improve as an attacking player. It will only make his all-around game better, when he does return to the wing in a 442.

Moreover, I think he's been able on occasion to provide his full game for PSV in certain Champions League games, like against Milan (not the last game, though, where he mostly attacked), where he was very useful covering on defense as a sort of fifth midfielder.

@Bluedaddy, I heard a few times now that Beasley seems to be a bit disappointed/annoyed that Hiddink doesn't talk much with him (during training for example), ever heard DMB say anything about that?
