Firstly i think that there are some real inteligent people here on bigsoccer. so im interested in how you guys would want chelsea FC to look next season..post your formation here, and add the transfers that you would like to happen..but keep it realistic..this should be fun..
I see no problem with this. -----------------------Cech----------------------- Bosingwa-----Carvalho---------Terry--------A. Cole -----------Essien-----Ballack-----Lampard--------- ---Cole---------------------------------Ronaldinho ----------------------Drogba--------------------- Cudicini Ferreira, Alex, Ivanovic, Bridge Makelele, Mikel, Wright-Phillips Kalou, Sinclair Villa IN (OUT): Bosingwa (Belletti) Ivanovic (Ben Haim) Ronaldinho (Malouda) Sinclair (Pizarro) Villa (Anelka) Might keep Sheva around if Milan simply want to rape us. If not then I'd go for a 19-22 year old foward that can be developed.
Good thread! Cech Bosingwa-Carvalho-Terry-A.Cole Essien-Ballack Lampard Arshavin/J.Cole-Drogba-Ronaldinho Subs: Cudicini, Alex, Ferreira/Ivanovic, Bridge, Makelele/Sinclair, Arshavin/J.Cole, Huntelaar
Here's the team I'd like to see in a typical Scolari Formation - 4-2-3-1 ----------------------Cech---------------- Bosingwa-----Carvalho-----Terry-----Cole ------------Essien-------Mikel/Maka Ballack-------------Deco--------------Ronaldinho ---------------------Villa -----------------
I'm sorry Randy36, but this is absolutely absurd. First: You think we're better off without Lampard? Have you watched the team without him? Second: Ballack is not a winger. Never has been, never will be. He's not fast enough to play out there and even if he were, playing on the wing would take him out of the middle where he excels at controlling the ball and finding the right pass. Third: No Joe Cole? Honestly? He was our second-best player this season (after Carvalho). You'd rather play Ballack on the wing than Joe Cole? Fourth: Villa as a lone striker ahead of Drogba? With that formation you need a striker who can hold up the ball. Villa's good at many things, but that doesn't seem to be one of them. Finally: With Maka in there, you want another defensive midfielder? Didn't you see what happened when France tried to do that? It doesn't work. When Maka plays, the other mids' job is to attack and cover their men, but not to play level with him and get in his way. Come on, Randy. Think before you put down any old formation.
An interesting idea. Lets see... .....................................Cech..................... Belletti...............Carvalho................Terry............ Bridge Bentley..........Diarra.................Lampard................Young... .............Drogba...............Berbatov...................
On the bench. Somebody has to come on later in the game and no player will play all games. That is the starting line up I would like to try, each and every one of the tried and tested in the league and proven quality. Even Diarra...his spell at Pompey where he played every week showed that he actually has the quality to back up the incredible ego.
Boy Clan, normally I agree with you on most things, but starting Lassana Diarra and Ashley Young over Essien and Joe Cole, when both Ess and JC are more proven than the other two, is a pretty big error in judgment in my opinion.
Heading back to London next weekend. Enjoyed my stay in the U.S. Getting too old for you young whippersnappers. Sorry you found fault with the team I picked. I'm sure Scolari will take care of that. I understand he is not very impressed with Joe Cole. I was under the impression Lampard and Drogba were leaving. Agreed Ballack is not a winger but perhaps he will interchange him with Deco. I understand Scolari usually uses two holding midfielders and would interchange Mikel and Maka with Essien. Have my seaon tickets for the upcoming season and am looking forward to the games at Stamford Bridge. I'm interested in seeing the changes Scolari will make. Cheerio lads.
Joe Cole has reverted to his pre Jose self, which is more show pony than effective footballer. His continued insistence on cutting inside - all the time - when on the wing is detrimental to the 4/4/2 I wish to play. When his direct competition for a place in the 4/4/2 is a player like Ashley Young, a true winger of equal talent in both feet, J Cole sits and Young starts the game. Essien is a monster, a real footballer, however, he can't challenge worth a shit and likes to use his incredible upper body strength to muscle opponents off the ball, more often than not resulting in a card and of course a foul. He's more suited to going forward and attacking, a real threat from the middle which is by far his best position, but we already have the best in England doing that: Frank Lampard. I want a young Makelele, equal in vision and the ability to be in the right place, yet with more pace and far better passing. Also the ability to actually hit the net when shooting is a major boon. So, in my 4/4/2, great and all as he is, he sits, as he's not suited to the position I want filled.
That's fair and I understand you better now. You're looking for a real d-mid. I was thinking of a destroyer more in the Keane/Vieira mold. It's true that Diarra is better suited for the former and Essien for the latter. I still think that Essien's superior passing and his incredible work-rate would make him a better choice than Diarra even in a straight 4-4-2. With that lineup, we wouldn't have to worry as much about Essien's challenges because we'd probably be having 55-60% of the ball in just about every match. On the road against the bigger teams, I'd revert to a 4-3-3 with a pure d-mid instead.
Fair points, Clan. Still don't think Young is as good as some like to think and Diarra isn't fit to wash Essien's underpants, but to each his own.
I dont know how this would work but would like to give it a try ------------------cech----------- boss--------rick-------terry-----cole-- --j.cole---ballack/ess---lamp---ronaldinho -----------villa-----drogba------------- More like a 4-2-2-2
Not bad - although for me, in that formation, I'd rather just have Essien at RM, Joey at LM, and a more conventional, less risky winger to rotate in or to come off the bench when we really need width on the right.
