I do not know as of yet. I would think there would be more promotional push for this around town now that we are in November and the Final Four for Men's and Women's NCAA soccer is 30 days away. Also, I sure hope our BBVA and Dynamo Stadium ops staff get the field up to par. If our city is to have the honor of hosting an NCAA Championship, a la the Final Four for men's basketball over at NRG where everything is done A+, our BBVA staff and ground care team sure better get the field to a good shade of green and little sand kick up issues. It's important to have the little things looking top flight for our city. It carries over to the comments we hear from soccer TV commentators about Houston will always have a trying time pulling big name talent to Houston for reasons they spew. Even if these opinions have weight, we cannot control opinions. But we can control our playing surface at BBVA and our BBVA staff participation with regards to customer service and crowd safety. This is just base professionalism. Do the job at hand, specifically growing green grass in Gulf Coast U.S.A., the best you can. Thanks in advance BBVA Stadium ground crew.
Turn on Univision Deportes for a look at the pasture . . . uh, I mean BBVA Compass Stadium. There's so much sand infill that they could host beach soccer here.
s I would be up for forming a BigSoccer - Houston fans n hinchas volunteer unit. I'm seriouxs! If our BBVA ground ops team needs volunteers to patch divots or water or mow or take turns doing all three, man, I'm all in for making our city look good for the NCAA Final Fours! Anyone be up to offering free help to our FO's staff these days?
No. They stole my season ticket money last year, let the team pay for it. They should have taken some of the money for whoring out to Chivas for the exhibition and put it aside for groundskeeping.
This is the NCAA's however Westie. These are not professional men but amateurs. I definitely here what you are saying that it is on our FO to have the money and the means to get the field correct, but will they is where the rubber meets the road! I sure hope they take getting our field correct. It's not like they have to land a man on the moon now is it. Just get a big grass field to look and play like a damn fine soccer field should! I just want our city and stadium to shine so that big events will want to return to our city. I have witnessed this first hand. Me and some of the STYSA staff volunteered for the USSF Youth Festival that is held annually around our nation and has all the regional U-20 teams, both male n female, from around the country play a tournament. Jen over at Keeper Notes was also a big volunteer on this front. This USSF Festival was held at U of H and our STYSA staff needed help getting all the logistics done not to mention little things like driving the teams around Houston, to and from the airport, getting the field prepped each morning, water was on hand (the tournament was in August of all times!) and more game day ops shit to do. Well, us in Houston put on such a good showing that the head honchos from Chicago at our USSF decided to return to Houston for the next year. Something that our USSF had never done in the past when hosting the tournament. All I am saying is that sometimes with soccer in our nation, those in charge of the sport need help to get the event done in a way that makes people consider Houston as a prime city to return to in the future. A top notch soccer town.
anyone know what the "all sessions pass" is for the mens final 4? does that mean 1 ticket gets all 3 games?
Most likely this. Perhaps the opportunity to go the practices as well. Maybe meet n greet with the NCAA officials and head coaches n their staff.
Maybe the NCAA will send a groundskeeper to help in advance but I recall the NCAA has done this in the past 5-6 years: - played it one year in St. Louis on grass where it was frigid and snowed and the field was frozen or a mess due to having had to clear snow from it - played it in Hoover, AL at a minor league baseball park and had to play part over a sodded-in baseball infield. I just don't think they care enough. And the Dynamo at this point are cutting costs since they have little revenue stream left for 2016. I actually think the HArris County Sports Authortity may be the official host so the Dynamo may be able to siphon funds from that group
Celt - to show you just how much the Dynamo/stadium cares about the field for the NCAA Final Four, look what they were going to schedule (or more accurately, what they were willing to allow the stadium to be rented out for) on Saturday 12/11, the off-day for the NCAA games: 794662319070576641 is not a valid tweet id Now, I think they may have pulled it or cancelled it but still, who thinks its a good idea for another game on that field that weekend?
Yup. Way to go FO. Them Chuly Sports group clearly could care less about the National Championships of U-23 soccer are being played that weekend as well. It also speaks to the absolutely massive, canyon like divide between footy fans in our sports culture. Think on this, the Sallie and Catracho football fans would perhaps sit through an Indiana vs. UCLA men's soccer match but the understanding of which teams, which players and the whole "why care about this" is missed on them. Might care but realistically won't. To the reverse also being true with the college players themselves on the Final Four teams, if given free tickets to the Saturday night match between their teams Semi's and Finals, would they as well understand who is playing on the National Teams of El Salvador and or Honduras, where they both sit in WCQ and as well why care to see these teams/witness players they will be competing for jobs for if they want to turn a professional soccer player. Should care but as well, realistically don't.
Chuly sports appears to be the FO go-to promoter when they need to rent out the stadium to raise revenues. I'm sure the field will be fully rooted for this one http://www.bbvacompassstadium.com/news/detail/honduras-jamaica-to-face-off-in-houston-feb-16
I saw that a few days ago when you google Chuly that's what comes up. I do find it funny our front office is helping a company that's going to build a facility in theory in competition for concerts with BBVA Stadium
Interesting. That location is on 1960 in between some churches and a mosque north of Bush airport. It looks like their calendar is wide open this month.
Also, I know the team added 76 gasoline as a team and stadium sponsor but if you go to the stadium website, the only founding partners left are Kroger and Methodist. Gone: AT&T, Dr. Pepper Snapple, Mazda, Statoil, Visa. Now, they got Sprint and Audi but the mere fact in 5-years they pissed away founding sponsors at the stadium isn't great news. A look at the HCC board agenda from the December meeting shows they cancelled the 2016 and 2017 Dynamo sponsorships which were $400k per year
