Eissman (Rockford, IL) and Scholl7 (Milwaukee, WI) of this forum are going to be viewing the FC Bayern vs Borussia Dortmund showdown at an establishment in Chicago on November 19th. Game time is 11:30 am, and currently we are looking to view the game at The Globe (Lincoln & Irving Park). This is an all-call to any and all who wish to join us. Also, if any Chicagoans know of any better place to watch the match, please let us know. The Globe is always a top choice, but there may be something a touch more Bavarian out there in the Windy City. I know there are some Chicago area posters here, so we would love to have you.
Maybe I could be convinced to make the drive from the 'nati...but what if we lose? I might be arrested.
Milwaukeean here and I'm tempted, but 11:30 on a weekend is tough. If I take the train I'd probably have to be out of the house by 7.
Grand Rapids here...I would like to go..but it is not up to me..it's up to the weather and school work. I will let you guys know when it gets nearer.
Or catch ride with Scholl7... He was looking at the train schedule originally. Glad to have you and Nimreitz if you can both make it.
Fussballer will be there. I used to live right around the corner from the Globe. I still go down to watch Liverpool matches. Let's hope there's not an EPL game at the same time. Fantastic German beer selection, btw. Think they still have Franziskaner Weissbier on tap. They used to have Weihenstephaner Vitus on tap for $6 and I practically drank their supply up. Luc (who runs the FCBayernreport.com) used to have FCBayern matches shown at the DANKhaus (Western & Lawrence) but I don't think he does this anymore. The German bars in the neighborhood open in the afternoon so viewing any matches there is out of the question. The Globe it is then.
Sweet! Fussballer in the Haus! I didn't realize Luc was from Chicago. Did he used to post on BS or does now? What is his ID tag? I will extend an invite to him as well somehow someway. He has a quality site! Look forward to meeting you. ps. I had a friend that used to live on Cuyler just behind the Globe.
Hey Nimreitz, We (me + gf) got Amtrak tix for Saturday, planning on leaving from downtown MKE station on the 8.00 for 9.30 arrival. It sucks, but it's either that or leave at 11 & miss the 1st 1/2 or leave at 1.00pm, miss the 2d. However, there is a friend of ours, also Bayernfan, who is maybe going to drive down that day but as yet she is undecided. I can let you know her decision but she said earlier this week "don't refund your tickets." I was @ Globe years ago for a match and there was a cover (I think because Celtic was playing), is there going to be a cover or not for this? I'm going anyway, but just curious. Also gave an invite to Torjäger who needs to check his calendar. I look forward to seeing an epic crowd and match. This girl will not be there:
I just can't do it. I need sleep on the weekends because I don't get it the rest of the week; watching Bayern at 8:30 in bed is though enough. Think I met you down in Bayview for the CL Final in 2010. Actually graduated from Law School that day. Awful day.
We will confirm once we get closer. I am looking into more German specific clubs at present. My only concern about the match is the Man U game vs Swansea is on at the same time. I believe Barca are on as well at that time. We are battling some obstacles, but fear not.... Bayern will be well represented somewhere!!! Stay tuned!
I haven't been to Chicago, other than flying and driving through, but I would love to visit. If you guys do something for the reverse fixture or another spring match then I would make the trip up.
Have you looked at Fado in Streeterville, eiss? I know they're even more English footy oriented, but they have multiple matches on simultaneously on various screens, so they just might have the Bayern match, too.
Thought of them as well... especially given we will be staying right round corner from the Hancock. According to their schedule, the ''Gerries" don't rate too highly... as I would expect! http://www.fadoirishpub.com/chicago/sports
Guys, I'm trying to see if we (the wife and myself) can make it out, any ideas on inexpensive places to crash? Im down for WI or the Chi
For you out of towners (especially those with significant others).... Nov-19 is the official lighting of Michigan Avenue. FYI> http://www.magnificentmilelightsfestival.com/ Not sure 'inexpensive' and 'places to crash' include downtown Chicago. There are loads of places however to select from. Just depends on your interests and location preferences.
Can't you and Jadger get military assistance? From Canada? Air lift? We will pick you up near Cabrini Green... plenty of space to land there. May have to come in hot... can get hairy around those parts.
Bump. Starting tomorrow I will be calling the rounds of pubs to see who is broadcasting in Chicago. Stay tuned. in the meantime, do we have a roll call???? - Eissman - Scholl7 - ???? - ???? - ???? - ???? - ????
I will check with my friends but I know a few said they were interested. I should have a better idea later today/tomorrow.
I emailed and stuart@theglobepub.com responded: "we can show games on ESPN3. We have a group of BM fans so you will not be alone." I'm fine with the Globe but I'm okay with an alternate, too. That day all the EPL and BuLi matches (but one) are done by 11am. We will likely the second- or third-largest fan base in the bar, as the only other matches that conflict with ours are: 11.00am Inter (#17. Damn!) x Cagliari (#10) 11.00am Villareal (#13) x Real Betis (#12) 11.30am Us (#1) x Bumblebees (#2) 11.30am Swansea (#10) x Manchester United (#2) 1.00pm Barca (#2) x Real Zaragoza (#16) I'm not worried about being overrun with Inter or Villareal fans but I'm guessing that there will be sizeable contingents of Manchester United and Barca fans present. The good news for us is that neither of these, to my knowledge, are derbies for any of these teams. And if you have any Bayern or DFB gear that you want to sell or swap this might be a nice time and place to do it...
Great work Scholl7!!! Luke from FCBayernReport.com also suggested a place called The Atlantic. It is located farther north on Lincoln (near Foster Ave). Place looks sweet. They have a back room as well that may be open. Not sure what beers are on tap. Here is the link: http://www.theatlanticbar.com/index.php ====================== Sounds like atmosphere and beer selection will be best at The Globe. The Atlantic poses a nice option however.
