I don't know when my state gets to vote but I know it's not tomorrow. All I can say is that I'm not a fan of any of the candidates. This is an interesting week...yesterday was the Super Bowl and tomorrow is Super Tuesday. Any other "super" events going on this week?
I think this is one of the most important elections in this country's history, especially for people between the ages of 18-24. There are so many factors involved this time around that make it not only quite interesting but also significant. I have my personal favorites and preferences but I don't want to turn this into a political debate. All I know is that youth is going to come out and vote in record numbers this year.
Hmm, let me guess? ... Oops, I can't, but if I could Obama would get my vote. I'm usually not into voting at all mostly because the parties, the candidates and their programmes normally suck by miles (just take a look at our current chancellor) so me willing to vote anyone - though I even cannot - really means a lot. This doesn't mean I'm an unpolitical person, but I simply think that the political systems at use are heavily corrupted and outdated. Nonetheless I would take Obama at least likeable even when this shouldn't necessarily be the reason to vote for someone
The same thing was said in '96, '00, and '04 why do you think it will suddenly change now? The youth vote is generally insignificant because voter turnout under the age of 30 is abysmal. I hope you slipped up and were meaning to say President, because Merkel is the best thing that has happened to Germany in a long time. They really needed a shake-up, especially in the economy and their untenable social programs.
Sorry, but you have no idea Merkel is doing nothing, really! She avoid any serious topic and she does not even consider starting to work off all the necessary projects. She is more like a "foreign minister chancellor" that is jetting around in the world and gets a good image because of that, but honestly the record for them at home in their dialy work is "catastropic" at best. The mentioned economic shake uo has nothing to do with Merkel and here work it is only a cyclic upward movement that happens to be in here reign. Even the social programs were introduced under the legacy of here predecessor
In that case there truly is no hope for Germany to re-emerge as a economic power. With an aging/shrinking population and ever expanding social welfair state it will take miracle to right the ship.
Yea but as many times as you've heard this by now, 9/11 really did change a lot. Plus, the policies of the Bush Sr. and Clinton administrations pale in comparisons to what W. has done since he came into office. Things can now either be exacerbated beyond repair or steered in the right direction. This new generation is more involved politically, whether it be on the internet or in terms of on the ground campaignign. A lot more young people are involved and interested in politics now because of the impact of the administration's policies. There is also a candidate running this time around that is different from past ones that is getting a lot of younger people involved and politically motivated. I think you'll be surprised how much voter turnout among young adults will increase this year.
If Germany is re-emerging as economic power it certainly won't have to do with this legislation this is for sure. I don't want to be pessimistic but I can understand and I even share the worries you have regarding Germany's future
I'm not too caught up on German politics since I don't live there but from what I've read and learned there is pretty much a political stalemate within Germany because of the coalition.
meh, I'm sure Merkel would love to reform the country a la Thatcher but she doesn't have a majority. I'll rather have this current Grande coalition than a possible Socialists-Greens-Commies government. Would abolishing Proportional representation help?
I dislike this two party system that we have in the USA, however I think that Germany's system of coalitions almost insures that no progresive changes can take place. It seems that the government is in a constant state of stagnation.
I don't think that this country can afford its politicians being in idle mode just because the majorities doesn't suit them too well well, I'm through with this party system. I really can't identify with the programme of a single party here. I'm a freid of good ideas no matter from which party these may come in the end. Therefore my idealistic und utopian view of a political system with a parliament full of experts (yeah, real experts not the pseudo lunatics we have) that are not bound by party relationships and commitments
man, i've been to busy with classes at university and how well the basketball team is doing being ranked 15th currently in the nation somehow... i come back to find hundreds of posts and dozens of threads LOL
right..carnival is pure crap....but Munich was really wonderful..and beer in munich much better than kölsch
interesting question P.S. i ´m a bit surprised or schocked that you know I already met Klinsi in the past.
Well, with Klinsi being and you being in Munich at probably around the same time, I simply have a hard time to think it was just a coincidence that's DI magic
