I played about an hour or so of Rush yesterday afternoon and had a great time, full servers, lots of quality team work, etc. Jumped back on around 8:30 P and the 2 servers I joined had not more than 5 people per team. Not so much fun ...
Got it. On the third mission of the campaign. So far, the writing is clever but not over the top. Was expecting the Smoke Monster to show up during the WWII mission.
He shows up later. Trying to get better with the Medic class, as I have all of Engineer unlocked and most of Assault. VERY hesitant to get into Recon right now. It's a funny thing this game. I can have a killer game playing Medic as a defender on Rush, but when the sides switch and I'm on assault, I am insanely incompetent.
Heh. I'm telling you, that noise sounded exactly like the Smoke Monster noise. Anyway, I'm nearly 2/3rds of the way thru the story. At the bit where you have to defend the little wooden shack from an enemy assault with a sniper rifle (don't want to give too much story away for those who haven't played it yet), and I keep dying. Got a little sidetracked with ME2; need to get back to this. I haven't even tried out MP yet (I usually like to complete single player in these FPS games first, to (a) build up some ability at the game, and (b) avoid too many map spoilers or anything).
You know the other noise Smokey makes, that ticking-clicking sound as it's flying around? The cabs in Philly have a receipt printer in them which sounds just like that ... but I digress. I kept dying on that level as well. One word of advice though, you don't necessarily have to use JUST the sniper rifle. There are other weapons scattered around, especially ones that go BOOM!
I found myself switching to my XM8 Prototype after they get in to medium range. The problem is that the building turns into swiss cheese in no time flat, offering zero cover. Hell, it barely qualifies as concealment before it gets blowed up real good. I think I was right there at the end of the wave when I died last time I tried. I should give it another go tonight.
I find Recon to be a really difficult class. Basically, I just suck at sniping. Whenever I play as recon, I find I get the bulk of my points from using the pistol. It doesn't help that the second sniper rifle you unlock really sucks-- the first one is okay but it has a really slow rate of fire. The third rifle is my next unlock-- but I really dread playing as recon in order to unlock it.
But recon doesn't necessarily equate to sniper. You can use close-quarters weapons, such as shotguns, as your primary weapon of choice, too.
The smoke monster did come back! On my 2nd time thru tonight, I managed to survive the assault on the cabin. The APC or whatever nearly did me in - I had to run back to the first cabin (which barely existed) to get the RPG. I just reached the start of the 2nd-to-last mission.
So of the larger maps (Arica Harbor for example) doesn't call for using non-sniper rifles. But the smaller maps with less long distance views (Nelson Bay, etc) are all about the boomsticks. -EDIT- And the Kit Upgrade DLC FINALLY comes out tomorrow. http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/bat...dier-some-style-with-the-kit-upgrade-dlc.aspx And for all my BigSoccer BC2 brethren, I have a ton of Dr. Pepper codes (20 total) that I'll be more than happy to send your way. Of course, this is after I use the 4-5 to download my stuff first.
PM me! Found this today - hilarious stuff the characters say if you just putz around. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6KIrEisIK4"]YouTube- Battlefield Bad Company 2 Funny Moments [HD][/ame]
I played through the whole game without ever really letting these moments happen-- I might have to go back through again. I will say, this game's conception of South American geography is a bit off-- the intro screens for each level zoom in on the map in areas from Chile to Colombia, without ever really letting you know what country you're in-- Bolivia is the only country mentioned specifically. And what city does the last level supposedly take place in? Also, although Bolivia does in fact have snowy areas, there aren't really villages in the snowy parts, to my knowledge, as those are only the very top of peaks. But, hey, it's a fun game.
Well, I finally beat the SP and got on MP... and wow, is this game different than MW2. Way more "realistic", and much less "arcade-y". And I can definitely see why working as a team is critical to success. It probably helps a ton to work in a squad with people you know. I think my K/D ratio is about .85 or so, and I've earned my first promotion and my first level with the assault class. I'm getting better at finding bad guys, so much so that I want to "spot" guys that are beyond the range I can spot with the assault class. I've resupplied teammates, and been resurrected by a medic after an enemy and I simultaneously killed each other while I was defending a flag. Pretty cool. Helos are hard to get a hold of. I hopped in one, and bailed out 12 seconds into the flight because it looked like the pilot was going to tank it.
This actually raises a question I've been meaning to ask-- how the hell do you parachute out of helicopters? I see other players doing it all the time-- but every time I exit a helicopter while it's in flight I fall to my death. Is parachuting an upgrade that you have to earn?
If you play on the console (I can only speak from Xbox perspective) tap A which will open your 'chute. I don't know what the corresponding buttons would be for PS3 and/or PC. You can also use it when jumping off multi-story buildings, although that looks a little silly when you see it happen.
As of 12:30 this morning, the new DLC was still unavailable, tho the online store said it would be available today. My last game last night (Conquest) was a weird one. We held all three flags virtually the entire match, but two players on the other team had scores nearly 3 times those of anyone on our team. Rush is a much more intense game type, and really requires teamwork to be successful. I managed to unlock the impact wrench, and the med kit, (plus the 2nd Assault upgrade and the 1st vehicle upgrade - I'm getting to be pretty good with the UAV) before I signed off last night. Can't snipe for shit yet, so the Recon class is not working so well for me. It is nice to be able to mark enemies from virtually all the way across the map.
2 "new" VIP maps are supposedly showing up on the in-game store now, but are only different gametypes in already-existing maps.
If I had a spare $60 this would be fun. But my game purchase this month is Red Dead Redemption which I preordered. Maybe if I get a full time job (wow thats a good joke) by the end of the summer I'd pick this up
Sorry for all the ignorant questions, but I only seem to be able to call in airstrikes with the UAV-- yet I often seem to get shot by a machine gun on some UAVs. Do all the UAVs have machine guns? If so, how the hell do you use them? I have pressed every damn button on the PS3 controller.
There is a vehicle mod that you have to equip on your class that allows you to have another weapon on vehicles. The name escapes me right now though.
I have that mod; but last night it appeared that the gun ran out of ammo (I was up for a long time providing overwatch). Possible? Or bug? It was frustrating to wait for the airstrike (or whatever it is I guide in) to reset when I saw a target.
I've had the machine gun on the UAV run out of ammo several times. I want to say I've even run out of the ability to call in an airstrike too.
