The Who are easily my second favorite band of all time behind Joy Division, but we'll see who comes out on top on this one.

One of my favorite songs of all time is Behind Blue Eyes. I had to vote for The Who for that reason alone. :)

Have you ever heard Limp Bizkit's cover of it? It's truly vile. And hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

No, never heard it. Is it worth trying to find a copy to download somewhere?

This is a tough one for me. I'm a big Who fan-much more than I am a Stones fan. But if I'm being objective...the Stones.

In terms of classic albums, the Who have only three: Tommy, Live At Leeds, and Who's Next. After that they sort of became a vehicle for Townshend. Who By Numbers and to a degree, Quadrophenia (which IMO is a classic, but was not seen so at the time), are close to solo albums.

In their primes as a live band, The Who were better and more original. I Can See For Miles, is one of the great singles-sounds great even today. But I think they give up too much ground to the Stones during the early years when the Stones were producing classic singles like Satisfaction, Paint It Black and Jumping Jack Flash. Until Tommy, they were almost alternative or undergroundish-The Who Sell Out, for instance-very cool and ahead of its time as a concept album.

Off topic-perhaps Marvin Gaye vs Al Green in a battle of the soul singers?

My appreciation for the Stones has grown recently, but in my eyes they do not measure up against The Who.

How did the Rolling Stones become known as the world's greatest rock band?

Its all subjective man, like saying Real is the world's greatest team. :p

BTW I voted for The Stones. I think its a pretty close one but I think The Stones just did it a tad bit better.

They both suck after 1980 tho. Spcially with high ass ticket prices that will probably deter many young fans to see them live EVER. I know I will never see them live even tho Im a fan of both these bands.

NO!! Absolutely NOT!! Quadrophenia the movie and the soundtrack are as good as it gets. The Who rule.

The Who "Sell Out", the remastered version with the bonus tracks, is one of my favorite albums period.

And I hate the Rolling Stones with a passion.

No kidding... or like trying to pick your favourite child!

I love both of them, and can never tire of hearing their music for hours at a time.

Flip-of-a-coin stuff here, and it's the Stones, barely.
