I wanted to organize all the hardware/cups/trophy MLS teams have won in major competions in the first 9 seasons. This will show the most successful teams of the first decade of MLS play and who stands above the rest in the inaugural decade soon to be completed. DC United 4 MLS Cups - 1996, '97, '99, '04 1 US Open Cup - 1996 1 CONCACAF Champions Cup - 1998 1 InterAmerican Cup - 1998 7 Total Major Domestic & International Championships Chicago Fire 1 MLS CUP - 1998 3 US Open Cups - 1998, '00, '03 4 Total Major Domestic Championships Los Angeles Galaxy 1 MLS Cup - 2002 1 US Open Cup - 2001 1 CONCACAF Champions Cup - 2000 3 Total Major Domestic & International Championships San Jose Earthquakes 2 MLS Cups - 2001, '03 2 Total Major Domestic Championships Kansas City Wizards 1 MLS Cup - 2000 1 US Open Cup - 2004 2 Total Major Domestic Championships FC Dallas 1 US Open Cup - 1997 1 Major Domestic Championship Columbus Crew 1 US Open Cup - 2002 1 Major Domestic Championship Teams that have not won any MAJOR Championships MetroStars, NE Revolution, Colorado Rapids, CD Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake
First, this has already been done domestically: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145364 Second, you're missing DC United's two Supporters Shields in 1997 and 1999.
sorry guys, my time ran out before i could finish editing and completing the chart, can a mod please help out so i can complete it. Thanks
Since the Supporters Shield isn't a widely recognized trophy, it makes sense to omit it from the list. Go ahead and complete your chart; then we'll edit your original post to add the info to it.
You forgot to include the numerous Don Garber Cup's(*) DC United has won. *In recognition for being MLS Front-Office darling
FC Dallas 1 US Open Cup - 1997 Columbus Crew 1 US Open Cup - 2002 Teams that have not won any MAJOR Championships MetroStars, NE Revolution, Colorado Rapids, CD Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake I did not include the Supporters Shield(award given to best record in the league for a season) because that is more like an award and not a Championship, it is kind of like MVP Honors. And I also did not count La Manga Cup - 2004 won by MetroStars (not a major championship). Mods, please add these to the list as well as the Galaxy 2001 CONCACAF Champions Cup, thank you. Use my color scheme too lol, makes it look nice.
oooohhhh no you didant!! The La Manga Cup is covented by some of the best teams you've never heard of through out the world..and we won it.
Agreed, I say you should count La Manga Cup. And as others posted the Supporters' Shield shouldn't be recognized.
The La Manga cup, a preseason tournament should be counted over a domestic trophy that relates to real games?
If we counted the Japanese Comic Book Cup guess we should get the Capital Cup for wins over the Londoners then too.
Some interresting stats and numbers... Only 2 MLS teams have ever won a DOUBLE (both MLS Cup, and US Open Cup in the same season/or any Major International Club Competition) DC United - 1996(MLS & US Open Cup Champs) Chicago Fire - 1998(MLS & US Open Cup Champs) DC United is the only team to have won a DOUBLE on the International Stage (Winning both the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the InterAmerican Cup in one year - 1998) had they won any domestic Cup in 1998, it would have gave them the TREBLE(3 Major domestic/international Cup wins in the same season) which is yet to be accomplished by any MLS Team. Allthough it would take plenty of hard work and determination to be done, both DC United and KC Wizards have a chance at the TREBLE for the 2004 season. DC United already has MLS Cup 2004, could possibly win CONCACAF Champions Cup, and move on to win the World Club Championship completing the TREBLE and making history. KC Wizards are the winners of 2004 US Open Cup and could win the CONCACAF Champions Cup, and go on to win the World Club Championship thus completing the great TREBLE. While the TREBLE may be a bit tough to accomplish, I believe both MLS teams have a very good chance in at least winning the DOUBLE by just winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup, or the Copa Sudamerica. Good Luck to DC United and the KC Wizards. May both clubs, along with MLS make history this year.
count the ********ing supporters shield it's not a ********ing mvp award... as it's not voted on... it's won by teams on the ********ing field and a domestic double has happened every year but '01 and '04
la manga counts even less than the atlantic cup, which counts less than the brimstone cup, which shouldn't be tracked for this purpose
The Supporters Shield is quite clearly a major piece of domestic hardware. Not counting it is really pretty asinine. And - to be a bit of an a$$hole here - DC United's official website banner includes the line "Now winners of NINE major domestic and international championships." Here's the header: Let me explain to you how you get to NINE. 4 MLS Cup 96, 97, 99, 04 1 USOC 96 1 CONCACAF Champions Cup 98 1 InterAmerican Cup 98 2 Supporters Shield 97, 99 ---------------------- 9 Championships And if you're going to count the La Manga Cup then you'd better count the Copa De Los Andes won by DC United back in ... who the hell remembers.
Im not counting the Supporters Shield, dont care if the DC website does. It doesnt make much sense to me to count it. Since we do not have the Euro Table structure, there is no sense in giving so much credit to the number one record in the league when they may not even make it to the actual FINAL game of MLS Cup and win the Championship. Supporters Shield is nice for bragging rights, and shows you had the best record for a certain season, but when you dont have the CUP to show for that season, I could care less if you had the best record. When we get rid of playoffs, and go to Euro table structure, and at the end of the season, the number one team with best record is our Champion, then the Supporters Shield has value, not now. For MLS purposes, I believe the regular season is merely played as a fight to get into the playoffs to eventually move on and win the MLS Cup, it is not played to have the best regular season record and win a Supporters Shield. Cant imagine NBA making such a big deal about the best record in the NBA, it is merely a plus and the rights to being called the best of the regular season. A very big + and boost for the team but nothing compared to the team that actually wins the Finals.
