Batistuta will play in the United Arab Emirates

The Argentine bomber has signed a 1-year contract with Al Ahly Dubai

Gabriel Omar Batistuta is ready to leave Italy. 'The Lion King' however will not go to England or PSG, but to the UAE.

In fact, the French sport daily, l'Equipe, asserts that the Argentine bomber has signed an annual contract with Al Ahly Dubai, a team that competes in the Persian League. The Arab team is trying to obtain the services of several expert players. Among those contacted was also Ivan Zamorano, who did not accept the offer.

In the season that just concluded Batistuta wore the jersey of Roma, then to passed to Inter with insufficient results.

Gabriel Batistuta's agent has denied that an agreement has been reached with Dubai team Al Ahly to acquire the former Argentina international. Argentina sports newspaper Ole and French sports newspaper L'Equipe had reported that the 34-year-old forward had signed a one-year contract with the Arab team. "We have had conversations with teams in Qatar, Dubai and England but there is nothing concrete, he has not signed a contract with any team," Batistuta's agent Settimio Aloisio told PA International.

    Official: Bati joins Al-Arabi

Gabriel Batistuta has officially agreed to join Qatar club Al-Arabi, confirmed the President.

The Argentine veteran is a free agent after his loan spell at Inter came to an end and his contract with Roma expired.

Why doesn't MLS plunk down some cash and sign him in a market that would support him? DC United could use some goals!

MLS does not have 6 million to give him.

I wouldn't trust any report that links a player to Al-Arabi, as they claim to have signed Romario but he is with Fluminese instead (as reported on ESPN's Soccernet).

Not really.... he can get three wives, but then sometimes one wife(no wife) is better.

the cap is about the right. The sponsor picked up the tab for the higher paid players.

Qatar, Calori and Aldair are ready to follow Batistuta

The flow of old glories continues towards Qatar. After the offer of Al Arabi was accepted by Batistuta, now also Aldair and Calori are at the point of moving. "I am ready to play with Bati", declared the Brazilian on Roman radio, "I have signed a precontract". Also for Calori the Middle East destination appears most probable: for him there have been offers from Arezzo and England, but the economic proposal of Al Arabi is by far the most substantial.

I just can't understand why he would go to Qatar. Although they are surrounded by gorgeous scenery he's playing in an inferior league. What ever happened to the alleged interest from Chelsea and Fulham? Romario just returned from Qatar and said he regretted ever leaving Brazil. Although Bati is no longer the dominant force he once proved to be, he shouldn't just give up and sell out for cash and meaningless stats.

the bloke doesn't know what he's talking about. the salary cap in MLS is closer to $1.7M USD though there are many ways to get around that with incentive contracts based on appearances, performances, etc. for christ's sake, Cobi Jones is paid $500K par anum

Well he was in Qatar, I believe, but since he is a ***************-ass player he went back after only 3 months, I think that was his contract though, but the thing is, if he has such a good reputation, why not play well everywhere? He went there for the 1 mill a month he was to receive....

Qatar is a little different from Dubai. Dubai is the sin city of the Persian Gulf. It is the play ground for the rich Arabs,
