It has over 120 years since a student team has made it to the first round proper of the FA Cup. They will play Mansfield at home in the first round. "LONDON (Reuters) - Team Bath, the first student team to play in the FA Cup for 122 years, reached the first round proper of the competition with a penalty shoot-out victory over fellow minor league side Horsham on Monday." http://sports.yahoo.com/m/world/news/reuters/20021028/reu-englandcupbath20021028.html
I don't know why but I'd prefer it if they called themselves University of Bath or Bath University (whichever is the official name) rather than Team Bath. But thats just me....
That's gerat for them. I wonder if they can make it further ..... I'm going to be hoping that Havant & Waterlooville (my home team) can beat Danenham and make it to the second round!
I know European ideas of hygene as slightly different than those in the USA, but it's hard to believe that they have college-aged "bath students." Shouldn't the kids' parents already have taught them how to keep themselves clean? And from pictures I've seen of the FA Cup itself I don't see how a single "bath student," let alone 11 of them, could fit inside the damned thing.
I think you should know that this is NOT an undergraduate college team in the traditional (or romantic) sense of the word. The Bath team is, in this case, made up exclusively of "mature" students almost all of whom have playing experience in either professional (lower divisions) or semi-professional football and who are now collectively taking an associate (two-year) course in sports administration and management. This team has more experience and has, for the most part, played at higher levels individually than the majority of their opponents in the FA Cup so far, and most of them are looking to get back into the full time game as well. They are an anomaly...they are not a university team in any "real" sense of the word. I am not trying to rain on their parade or belittle their achievement (well done to them) but if you read the press, even they are somewhat embarassed at the way they are being painted to be some they really are not.
Team Bath vs. Mansfield town is ON TV in the US: FSW, 7 a.m. EST, November 16th. http://www.foxsportsworld.com/world/pdf/fsw46.pdf You need acrobat reader for the link
Team Bath vs Mansfield Town Live on Sky Sports 1 at 11:30am. Kick off 12pm. Any one know what game the BBC will be showing Sunday dinner time. I love FA cup weekends. i get so excited, it's still the greatest club Cup in the world.
I missed it. Hopefully it will be replayed. Amazed no one posted a result. I expected to see one here.
I am a dumbass. Looked to see what the score of the Huddersfield FA Cup match was. Saw the result for this one. Moron.
Did anyone happen to catch the wording on the back of Bath's manager's jacket? I swear it said "You'll never Bath alone."
It was a fun game to watch as was the Wigan game (My old team) It was a lot like watching an MLS game, similar standard of play. Fast, hard tacklng.
I thought the speed was faster than MLS, Mansfield was attacking hard, and the fact that their defense was a bit weak made a fun game.
