Can ANYONE tell me the results of the Basque National team in Scandinavia in 1937? What I know is that they won all the games, 2 against Denmark and 1 against Norway, but I cannot find the actual results (or dates) of the games. Any help would be much appreciated.
Ther has not been played any games between the Danish A-national team and the Basque National team in 1937... Could It be some Danish club or regional team ?? ... .
I think I can help a bit. During the Spanish Civil war, Basques and Basque footballers came out on the losing side of Civil war. A team of well known Basque Players traveled throughout europe, possibly to scandinavia. This was around 1937. I do not think they called themselves "the Basque National Team". I 'll ask around. PM me if you want to speak further.
Hi. Thanks for your help folks. I found the results I needed. 22nd August 1937 - Norway 1-3 Basque Country in Oslo 29th August 1937 - Denmark 1-11 (Yes, ELEVEN!) Basque Country in Copenhagen
Well, I got the list with all the Danish NT games ever played, and the Danish NT only played 5 games in 1937, non of them was against a Basque team... However we did beat Norway 5-1 in Copenhagen at the Nordic Championship the 13th June 1937, the next game was the 12th September 1937 in Warszaw Poland (a 1-3 loss) so I'm sure the team beaten 11-1 cant be the Danish NT... It must have been some club or regional team.... .
I believe it was the national team. However, as the Basque Country is not considered a 'real' country, the Danish FA would not have considered the match official. Only matches against other FIFA countries will be on your list.
Unofficial or not, I find it highly unlikely that it was the Danish NT playing this match. Simply because the two absolute biggest home defeats ever to a Danish NT was two 0-6 losses to Sweden and Hungary (in the 50's) and the biggest away defeat was a single 0-8 defeat to Germany, other than that no Danish NT have ever let in more than 6 goals in a match... So a Danish NT losing 1-11 at home seems highly unrealistic.... .
Saw on a danish side it was a select team of DAI sport- Danish Labour Movement Sport http://dai-sport.dk/fp.php
