Reading on Soccernet & Soccer365, that 4 top european clubs last week sent a letter to FIFA saying they dont wish to take part in the World Club Championships.

    Officials from :
( Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter )

Have opposed the desire to play in this Cup as it conflicts with there numerous cup and european competitions they must play throughout the year.

They sound determined not to play and might take FIFA to court over playing in it.

As we got shafted our chance to play the BIG BOYS 2 years ago, and having to re-qualify this time.. is concacaf wasting it's time again?

Does anyone else smell another let down?

Of course it's another letdown. My guess is that the WCC won't happen. Most of the Euros do have to compete in other cups during their domestic league play but since the WWC is planned for the summer, what conflict do they have? The fatigue excuse will be thrown in there, which is valid considering that they would be playing pretty much all year long. Those Euros would like a break to recover and spend time with the family and friends.

It took Great Britain's teams forever to decide the World Cup was a good idea. I think, in fact, that England had to be dragged into the European Cup. Unless there's money and prestige attached to this, there's no incentive for rich clubs to give this legitimacy.

Notice it's the clubs with the big worldwide marketing that don't want anyone else to have a chance at "joining the club" of worldwide attention at a, possibly some day, big event.

Remember, their first WC was in 1950. Guess what happened to them against some soccer wasteland that year? ;)

Hey, when faced with playing Los Angeles on a world stage, who wouldn't be frightened?

Gentlemen, have you no compassion whatsoever?
