Basel needs a miracle in this one: http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/fixturesresults/round=1637/match=1038272/Report=PR.html But then again, stranger things have happened before...
Daviids is out of the game due to to many yellow cards. This should help, but to win by four goals. That is going to be difficult.
http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/news/Kind=1/newsId=59511.html This is an interesting article. I had not thought about it, but with the depressed transfer market, Basel might be able to keep some of the players that would otherwise have left. I think it will still be very difficult to keep Hakin Yakin, and mabye Giminez, but we will see. I am now envisioning next years Cl/UEFA Cup. With a very strong GCZ team, and a very strong Basel team, whomever playes either in whatever competition they are in will not be happy. I have also noticed a lack of intrest among the Swiss press towards this game. I understand that it is a difficult situiation. Basel still has a chance, although very minimal. If Basel had already been eliminated, this game could have been sort of a thank you game for the enjoyment of watching Basel advance. But due to the difficult situiation, there seems to be a aloofness to the game. I don't know what the Swiss-German press is saying, but that is the general perception of the Swiss-Romand press.
I see Christian Gross making several substitutions at halftime to rest some key players for the upcoming GC game...
Goal Cantaluppi in the 38th minute! Only five more to qualify. This should help the Basel supporters.
I have got to run. Deportivo is up 1-0. Man U has to win or tie and Basel has to win for Basel to get third. Lets hope!
Here's the uefa match report: http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/UCL/FixturesResults/Round=1637/match=1038272/index.html Once again props to Basel for representing our league in such an impressive fashion. Things could've been much different today if last week's games would've ended a little differently. Oh well, there is no shame what so ever in going out only on goal differential against Juventus. On the upside, I can now finally stop being sympathetic with Basel. And on that note, Hopp GC!
Nice to see the unity in Switzerland Soccer for a while. Hakin Yakin was subbed out in the 80th minute. I wonder if those ten minutes were to save him for this weekends game? One other thought, now with the CL out of the picture, Basel will focus on the league and Swiss Cups. It really should be fun to watch the rest of the spring. Thanks Basel for a great run and a great job! Switzerland is no longer the land of cheese, chocolate and skiing, they can play football also!
Exit does not dishearten Gross: http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/fixturesresults/round=1637/match=1038272/Report=RW.html
