I don't follow baseball at all, but in the gym here at work, the TV is on ESPN so I see baseball stuff ALL the time - and it occurred to me today that baseball is all about the number 3. (i'm sure someone has already mentioned this somewhere).

    3 strikes
    3 outs
    9 innings - divisible by 3
.300 - mendoza line for a good hitter
3.00 - below it is the mendoza line for a great pitcher
    162 games - divisible by 3
    3 divisions per conference

Is that it? Maybe its not all about number 3.

You forgot the three minutes between each half inning.

The actual Mendoza Line is .215

The figurative Mendoza Line is .200
(whenever someone speaks of the Mendoza Line as a stat, this is the number they are talking about.)

Whoever gave you your information was wrong.

I figure those mendoza lines are for bad hitters. Anwhere between .200 (.215) and .300 is your average hitter. Good hitters hit over .300, correct?

    That would be me.

Baseball just moves way too slowly to maintain interest. Unless I am drinking and watching with a HUGE baseball fan.

the field has 3 sides. How ya miss that one!

    The Babe was #3.

While in soccer you need a ball...in Baseball you need 3 things...a ball a glove and a bat.

    9 players on defense...divisible by 3.

Just like America o create something that goes by a factor of 3 and not follow the easier Metric system (everything is in 10's).

That's because Mario Mendoza was a bad hitter. Can't be putting his name on a figure for good hitters.

Ironically, he was a hitting coach for a major league team (forget the exact one) at one time.
