I just found this interesting little tidbit: http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=127212&cpid=100&title=AGF+trial+Barrett"/> Looks like Ekelund took a shine to the lad. AGF is currently fighting relegation in the Danish Superleague and looks like they could use the help. The upside is of course those hot Danish chicks.
yup. Joe Cannon also appears to be leaving the Nats camp to go on trial over at Feyenord, leaving Richie and LD to cover for us with Bruce Arena.
The only thing to make me smile about this article is seeing a Clash jersey. Considering the player movements we have seen in Western division teams, it really looks like this will be a bad year for San Jose. Unless Yallop is hiding something under his 70's style hair.
Straight from the USSF, Wade leaves tomorrow for Denmark: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=26250&itype=
On Trial?? Jesus, I thought he shot someone, or went all Lee Bowyer on somebody. Not that kind of trial though.
I have to ask, what good would it possibly do someone to play in Denmark? I mean, I can see going abroad if you're going to play in a higher division league, but Denmark? What the hell is there to attract a player? Ok, besides the chicks ) They can't be able to pay more, and he won't get any more exposure there than he would here, so why would he risk his nats exposure to even do this? I just don't understand. Spain, yes. Eng-er-land, yes. Italy, yes. Germany, yes. But Denmark? <cut to Wayne's World scene with Wayne and Garth standing befuddled in front of a background scene of Delaware - Hey... we're in... Delaware>
"I have to ask, what good would it possibly do someone to play in Denmark? " nothing. If players are to go aboard they should go to a league better than their own. americans should either go to the top leagues, or the "semi top" (dutch etc)
i would´nt be sure that we can´t pay him more than your team can. how much does you pay him and the danish league is´nt that bad the league leaders FC Copenhagen won against Lazio. and what does you know to the danish league??
and we have a great team but there is a lot of young players. one day they play good the other they not
It's a different country, a different style of play, a different culture, a different passion, a different life. Maybe Barrett wants a little culture. He'll get different exposure (better?) there than in the States. Possible European competition perhaps. Ekelunds a Dane, so lay off. Grr, I'm hungry now.
Does Aarhus have at least a distant shot to play in even UEFA cup? I never remember them playing there... Otherwise, there's no reason for Wade to go there, just for the sake of playing for crappy team in not-so-strong league.
Ahem,...Throwing out statistics like this league is 31st and this one is 48th and using that to say one is so much better than the other is rather specious logic. If those were World Cup skiers, the differences (between 31st and 48th) would be in hundredths of a second. At those levels, there is not much, if any, difference.
This maybe a wishful thinking on my part, but this all could be a bargaining ploy to get a better contract from MLS. Petke went through a similar thing in Germany although he had to return since MLS told him that if he gets injured in Germany while on trial, it won't be covered by MLS insurance...
The rumour was that they were talking about $120,000 per year for salary. But this information was about a month ago. How does this compare to the salaray in the Danish league?
