In the latest World Soccer (with that Brazilian striker who used to play for Barca and Inter on the cover) two different articles make mention of Barca's finances. Both times the club is referred to as being "in the red." And I recall when Rivo was allowed to leave, a couple of articles cited the size of his contract as part of the reasoning for letting him go. Comments? More information? thanks Tony
Money now the motivation for Barcelona, say Van Gaal BARCELONA, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The push for prize money will ensure that Barcelona stay motivated for the remainder of the opening group phase in the Champions League, according to coach Louis van Gaal. Barca are all but certain of making progress after Tuesday's 3-1 win away to Lokomotiv Moscow gave them a maximum nine points from three Group H games but football's harsh new economic reality means the Catalans will not be slacking off. 'I think we're almost through to the second phase now,' van Gaal said after his side's victory in Moscow. 'We have to win the three games we have left as well, though. There's a lot of money at stake and that's important for the club.'
