Mods, can you add an [R] to the title? Thanks in advance. Guzan - 6 - rarely tested Moor - 6 - decent job getting forward DeMerit - 6 Califf - 6 Pearce - 6 Kljestan - 4 - not active enough Bradley - 5 - okay, but didn't show the desire to make any incisive passes Szetela - 5 Lewis - 4 - I was not impressed. Where was the sense of urgency? Nice goal though. Adu - 5 - would've had a "4" if not for the pass to Lewis for the goal. Beasley - 3 - Bob played him out of position, but still a lackluster performance. And yes, we were in a 4-6-0 for the first 70 minutes of this match. Subs: Rolfe - 6 - decent link-up play with the other Fire players. Barrett - NR Thorrington - 7 - the only US player on the pitch who showed any desire to impress. I really thought John Thorrington, despite his limited minutes, was the only US player who showed any desire to impress or any pride in wearing the Red, White & Blue. He was active, made runs off the ball and showed decent composure with the ball at his feet on the wing. He also delivered some fairly dangerous balls into the box. Still one of the most boring matches I've ever seen. I'd like an explanation from Bob - that way, we at least we know if the game plan was to take it easy on Barbados or if our B-team is really that bad.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread Guzan - 6 Moor - 6 Demerit - 6 OTC - 6 Pearce - 5 SK - 5 Bradley - 5 Szetela - 6 Lewis - 6 Adu - 6 Beasley - 5 Rolfe - 5 Rooney - 5 JT - 5 Bob - 4
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread Rest assured that Grant Wahl will get the scoop! Or he will scoop up Bradley's shit...!? I can't remember the expression.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread Guzan - 6 - I hope he liked the suntan because he didn't have to do much. Moor - 4 - Got forward, but his crosses were terrible. Another Heyduk in the making. Get forward and send the cross directly to the defense. Simek, if heathly needs a look here. DeMerit - 6 Want to see more against a better team. Califf - 6 Want to see more again a better team. Pearce - 6 Solid game. Had some nice crosses. Kljestan - 4 - To many passes behind players and just didn't look to have much energy today. Bradley - 4 - Went with the flow of the game. He needs a rest and its so obvious. Szetela - 6 - Had a good first half, made the needed runs and got back to play defense. Would have like to see more in the second half. Thought he was better than Bradley. Lewis - 6 - He lead the team which is something I have never seen him have to do before. Could have done more, but wearing the armband can have some pressure added to it. Adu - 4 - Can see the angles to make he pass where few Americans can, but still holds the ball to long. Beasley - 3 - Why he was put in that position for the first place is beyond me. Subs: Rolfe - 3 - Just don't see it at the National Team Level. How many more chances with no results does the guy get. Barrett - Didn't have a chance to do much. Thorrington - 4 - He did hustle and played hard, but I am sure we have better options on the wing.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread This game was not worth rating player. It was like a youth league game.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread It shoudn't even been on TV. Then again, you can say the same thing about Spain-Italy.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread LOL. I got a nice 20 minute nap in during the Euro match, so it wasn't a total loss of 3 hours of my life.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread Lol I like all the Analysis being provided in this thread by some of the posters. I say 5 for Adu Lewis Adu for the assist and lewis for the goal, everybody else NWR Not worth rating.
Re: Barbados v. USA 6/22/08 Player Ratings Thread All 14 players get a NR (no rating) from me. Everyone stopped playing after we scored - and even before we scored, only Pearce, Lewis, Adu, and Szetela were actually trying.
Here in South Alabama it was approximately 90 degrees with extreme humidity at 2 PM. Today's weather forecast for Barbados shows that at midafternoon it was approximately 87 degrees with 84% humidity. You go out and run in that for 10 minutes and tell me how much urgency you have when your team has an 8 goal lead.
Not a whole lot, to be absolutely honest. (Once played at 105 degrees and 95% humidity in Dubai, UAE. Ugliest game I've ever played in.)
You are right. Pro players competing against amateurs would have difficulty looking good when the temperature is hot. I think you figured out why we did not perform like a quality national side.
Can I politely call bullshit on that. Guys with 8 touchdown leads? Ever watched a 48 - nothing half-time lead game in 90/90 heat? Yawn. That said, this was always going to be an awful game. The only goal in this game is not to do something catastrophically awful. We managed that - barely.
Szetela played the way I've been hoping Bradley might in the middle with a lot of energy, confidence and control going forward and coming back. He should be great in the olympics. Rolfe looked bad, maybe the MLS is ruining his game because he seems to be struggling to make an early sprint or get into the game. This game was boring and showed very little outside of Pearce, Szetela and Adu.
Anyone who half-asses the 48:0 game gets cut. Those guys are fighting for jobs. These US kids are fighting for jobs. There's no excuse. NFL pre-season gets ugly because there's little skill at the end of those games but there's plenty of heart.
I don't care how hot it was. These guys were playing for the right to ever suite up for the USMNT ever again. They didn't care about the 8-0. This is a lot different than a normal professional game. They were playing for their country and a chance to impress us and the coaches. They failed soooooooo miserably it is sad. I hope not one (that includes Beasley. I hate him as much as EJ) of they suites up again except Adu. This was one of the most embarrassing games I have ever suffered through.
Guzan - 6 Did his job. Moor - 6 Much better than against Mexico, but then again, this was Barbados. DeMerit - 6 I prefer him to Bocanegra. Califf - 6 Good job. Pearce - 6 Did well. Kljestan - 5 Improviing, but could still do better. Bradley - 5 That pass for Barbado's counterattack could have been a disaster -- he's got to quit doing things like that late in the game. Szetela - 6.5 Played strong. Lewis - 6 Showed his experience. Adu - 6.5 Incisive and intelligent passing -- good job! Beasley - 2 Once again, back to his normal quality ... which is really bad. Errant passes, can't beat *anyone* on the dribble, half-hearted challenges. Why he is a mainstay on the US National Team is beyond me! Subs: Rolfe - 5 Not bad, but not too good either ... limited time. Barrett - NR No time. Thorrington - 6 Impressed with his passion and desire to make something happen ... however, he's not used to the speed of the game (physically and mentally) at this level ... yet. Warrants another look in qualifying perhaps. Bradley - 5 Don't know why he keeps selecting Beasley ...
I don't think I have agreed with anything posted on BS more than this. The bad thing is I have felt this way from 2-3 years. Beasley is as worthless as EJ.
Don't these guys realize that there's a BS Player Ratings Thread after every match!?! What were they thinking?!? {I enjoyed 'suites up,' btw - nice touch! No more suites for these bums! } ps. I didn't see the game, but I'll take everyone's word for it that it was a real stinker.
Im going to have to disagree with this. My brother was drafted by the Dolpfins, and played on the Pats, and Broncos as well. The stories hes told me about players dogging it, and this was during the pats 1st superbowl in the run , was amazing. Your statement is incorrect mate.
Don't confuse SFS with facts and actual been-there-done-that stuff. Seriously SFS, call up some hard-fought second halves of 48-0 halftime preseason games. I'm sure can find them on youtube. Except for the kicker (who the heck misses 8 PATs?) these guys have already cracked open beers. I know everyone want the USMNT to play for them, to kiss the joehooligan crest on their shirt ever time they score. To flash SFS to the cameras as they volley home a brace. But sometimes it just doesn't happen. Which is not to defend this team or this coach - I don't think either were impressive. But this was a game about not melting down. And they achieved that. Now, about the other dozen games this year ...
I've always rated Szetela very highly and ahead of Bradley also in terms of talent (along with Edu). He needs experience, and it appears that Brescia is a good place for him right now.
