my dis-taste for Kluivert started in the CL game last season against los puuta madrilenyos, when he missed SEVERAL spot on opportunities to win that match...

He scores a lot of goals, but for the number of quality chances he has, he should score a hell of a lot more.

    Less flicks...more kicks

He's pretty frustrating. When he does score a goals, he tends to score them against a weak opposition or when the game's in the bag. His strike rate is terrible against quality opponents or in important games. That goes for both club & country. Oh well, three points is three points though...

What's more frustrating is Van Dumb's player selection. Riquelme & Saviola should not be on the bench, period. If he's going to play Mendieta, he should play him in a position he's accustomed to. The guy's confidence is all but ruined these days. If Van Dumb can't play him in his natural position(s), reunite him with Cuper and get someone from Inter. I'm sure there are a few skillful, yet programmable robots on the books at Inter that LvG would mind taking in.

OK, I didn't check in to learn anything about the line up before the match, but, for once, let me defend LvG's selection.

If Barca's third team couldn't beat Recre, then LvG should have been canned. Maybe, just maybe, LvG thought this match would give Kluivert some confidence. Maybe he thought, correctly, that Barca didn't need Saviola, JRR, or GM to beat Recre; I could be wrong.

They've all played a lot of matches, and giving them, in effect, an extra week to quasi-rest isn't such a bad thing.

Now, none of this is a commentary on how good or poorly Kluivert played. I'm not a huge fan, but he did score in a European Cup final and he seems to want to play for Barca.

And, soccertv.com says ESPN2 is showing Barca-Inter when the Champs League returns in February.

    Happy New Year

Good point. Or should I say, 'three points'? That's all that matters right now...get some @#!&@ points and get some momentum for the second half of the season.
The next month includes trips to Vigo and Atletico Madrid and Valencia is tucked in there, so its time to build a little momentum and start clawing for a CL spot at their expense.

I get Tony's point about the rest and the weak opposition and all that stuff but c'mon!!!! Kluivert should be pichichi with at least 5 or 6 goals difference!!! if we just could bag him and let him rot in Rotterdam!!!
