Also from Rapidfire, but this new banner project sounds awesome! It will be nice to see the Rapids getting publicity all over the city, rather than just on a couple billboards. This has to be a positive step for marketing! From Rapidfire: "RAPIDS BANNER PROJECT The Rapids are preparing to blanket Denver with a Black and Blue PabloMastroeni larger-than-life banner project, in preparation for the 2003Rapids Home Opener. Starting this weekend, huge black and blue Rapids banners featuring Mastroeni will be going up on lightposts over all the key entrances/exitsto the city and major thoroughfares of Denver. Keep your eyes out for Rapids banners in the following locations: -Auraria Blvd. by Pepsi Center from Speer south to 7th -Speer Blvd. by Pepsi Center from Elitches to Auraria and around that intersection -20th Street by Coors Field from the underpass east to around Larimer -Broadway South from 11th to 3rd -Lincoln St. South from 6th to 3rd -6th Ave. East from Speer to Humboldt -2 banners per mast in each planter along the entire length of the 16th St. Mall from Market St. to Broadway These banners will be displayed all over the city from March 1st through the Rapids Home Opener against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, April 12th."
Definitely a quality move by the front office. I'd guess that they'll look like the vertical "banner" on the main page of the Rapids site (on the right, with Pablo). Thus I hope they look a lot better in large format and hanging from poles...
Good idea, like when the Avalanche jerseys lined Larimer Square. This will give the Rapids passive exposure, but positive exposure, possibly building anticipation among the public (not just devoted Rapids fans) for the upcoming season. Smart move, I must say.
I saw the banners up on 16th St. Mall today; there's 2 big banners every 50 feet or so all the way down the mall.
Yes, it's the same image as on the webpage (they do look a lot better in person!) I'd say they are about a foot wide by 4-5 feet tall and they are very eye-catching. I guess I never noticed, but there's not too much of the color blue along the mall, so the banners really stick out!
For clarity it's not the image from the splash page of the website but rather this one from the main page:
As reported in today's RapidFire, photos are now posted online at http://www.coloradorapids.com/site/goal.asp?cid=323
Now the Rapids need to start twisting arms in the stinking cesspool of media here in Denver and at least get some pre-season scores in the broadcast. Have we had enough of the donkeys new qb and the type of salt he uses on his steak? Maybe it's just me, but the media here sucks hard. It's like they don't have anything else better to cover other than if a donkeys player took a crap or passed out candy at Halloween. I don't understand the media here, they will be pawns for other sports teams but not the Rapids? Did Phil piss somebody or all of them off severly? It's simple Rapids, get some lunatics to streak across the field. Send in the clip and at least get a mention on the tube. Would really help with the nice weather we have to motivate people.
Wow, they went crazy with the banners. It's about damn time they did something like this. And to be honest I would have been embarassed to see Pablo posted everywhere wearing the tight Kappa jersey from last year. Hopefully this is just the start, and who knows, maybe the banners will make a noticable difference in attendance and media perception. Garrett
16th street photo Living back east in PA, I only get to about 1 game a year. Any chance someone could take a shot of 16th street? I bet that looks awesome! Glad to see the Rapids doing some PR!
The banners look great, especially along the mall. I'm glad to see they're doing some publicity. I was totally against the color change, because I'm all for tradition, but I must admit the new look is very sharp.
I'd have to agree that the Banners definitely look good on the mall. I guess we'll see if that translates into any returns at the gate.
