I realize this is the United board, but I wanted to let soccer fans from this area know that the Baltimore Blast are playing in the MISL championship series this weekend and they host game two Sunday at 6pm (Apr 13) If you are interested in going I believe there are still tickets left. While the indoor games can't match the atmosphere of a DC United game the Blast games are exciting and I like to support the rise of soccer in this area...........Maybe the Blast can take the indoor title this year and United can take the MLS, Freedom take the WUSA...then this region would truly be the soccer capital of the US!
Got to give the Blast all the credit in the world...they have gone through 3 head coaches this season, starting the season like the Detroit Tigers or like a West Brom Albion and finishing very strong and suprising everyone to the championship title series. I am glad to see this happen to the Baltimore Blast- a classy organization. Listen to all games on 1300AM WJFK and go to the game Sunday evening 6.05pm at Baltimore Arena.... Santino's hometown team.. hey you might even see him there.
The Blast are a well-run organization and the fact that their games are broadcast no WJFK is amazing to me. The coach is Hudson-esque in that he stepped out of the broadcast booth and on to the bench mid-season to lead the team to the playoffs and ultimately the championship series. Baltimore is a good soccer town, it's just manifested in strange ways. Go Blast.
I too must voice my Blast support. Rep B-more well fellas! It is fun listening to Blast games on the radio with whoever that guy with the accent is. I'm very surprised that they are in the finals after the past few years of poor play. Hopefully I can say the same for United at the end of this year.
from what i hear, now that the Richmond Renegades Ice Hockey team is out, we might be getting an MISL team.. great, Richmond teams tend to have a plague of small crowd numbers.. i hope this one lasts a little longer
Baltimore people - call Nestor at WNST this week when he has the Blast guys on, usually on Thursdays, and remind him to try and follow United some this season when MISL is over.
I agree, with the posts here, Living in the middle I support the Blast and United and can get to each teams games fairly easy. Hopefully Baltimore soccer fans will come down in bigger numbers to see United, with Q1 looking to be healthy and get large chunks of playing time he could be the guy that sparks intrest in Baltiomre from the fans that wouldn't typically go to a DC game. I've been saying this a while while watching this whole high speed BMore-DC train battle play out. If that thing goes in and you can from downtown to downtwn on 10 minutes it would be wise for the teams to try and start recruiting new fans from those areas now. The Blast and United could benefit with their sesaons not really intersecting...
.... then again, could be Norfolk/Hampton/Va. Beach. http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories/story.cfm?story=52667&ran=209561
The guy with the accent, Bobby McAvan, from Scotland, is now the head coach of the Blast. He took over the helm about 3 months ago. He played for the Blast in the early to mid 80s. The Blast have ALWAYS been on Baltimore radio- every game since its inception back in the Kenny Cooper days in 1980. Art Sinclair, calls the game and has been now for over 20 years for the Blast. The guy should DC United matches or the Ravens. He is great. By the way= Baltimore v Milwaukee this Friday night for the MISL championship- best of 3 and its tied at 1-1. I still say that DC United should play either a preseason match or a regular season match at Ravens Stadium to increase its fan base in Central Maryland.
