Maybe I have one day break from updates today, on the last quarter final day (with Silverstone Grand Prix qualifying too). Doing these updates, and checking the threads of CristianoPuskas too, did get me thinking about that 'best player in history progression' topic again though. I am kind of thinking, if assuming attacking players are the most likely candidates, the list of those who at one point might have been big contenders as best/top player in history could be something like this (bolding the ones where maybe I am inclined to say they achieved it...as hard as it is to make those calls!): Nevill Cobbold ('Nuts Cobbold') Tinsley Lindley John Goodall Gilbert Oswald Smith (GO Smith) Bobby Walker Arthur Friedenreich Hughie Gallacher Alex James Matthias Sindelar Giussepe Meazza Gyorgy Sarosi Adolfo Pedernera Stanley Matthews Tom Finney Ferenc Puskas Alfredo Di Stefano Pele Johan Cruyff Diego Maradona Lionel Messi (I think George Best may have been better than Pele at a particular moment, but probably not ever better than Pele had ever been, while I doubt there is really a case for Franz Beckenbauer or Michel Platini over Pele, but I think anyway that with both at their best Cruyff>Beckenbauer and in terms of prime capabilities at least Maradona>Platini, comparing players from the same eras...)
I guess I could have included Hector Scarone (and/or Jose Leandro Andrade, though he wasn't predominantly an attacking player) as well as Jose Manuel Moreno, in that list (possibly based on the limited footage or even moreso some testimony I read not very long ago re: Friedenreich and Pedernera I moved slightly towards them rather than Scarone or Moreno compared to what I might have thought/assumed previously, but obviously it's very hard to form a good impression anyway). Predominantly for their scoring prowess maybe Steve Bloomer (between Smith and Walker?) and Josef Bican (between Sarosi and Pedernera?) as well....
By the way, @PDG1978 do you think it's possible to lock a thread? Because I'm starting thinking, that once we have the last votes from @Jaune Vaughn and your updates, as well as my templates, I think it would be good to conclude this thread

Yes, maybe we can wait for Titanlux's 1998/99 update too and make a new 1990s summary afterwards and then lock the thread? I'm sure @comme will be able to do it (I think you will understand comme as you are generally thorough with checking the gist of the conversation on a thread, but just to make sure there isn't any mis-understanding - this isn't a request to lock the thread just yet).
I guess you mean 70s is the furthest you are going back then mate? I'm just asking so we don't accidentally get the thread locked when you want to add 60s and 50s votes or something (albeit I guess it wouldn't happen as the thread won't be locked for several days yet at least anyway I wouldn't think).
By the way @Jaune Vaughn I think I spotted you are one of the voters using seasons rather than calendar years (which is completely valid) - I maybe don't need to be too clever or insightful in working it out based on players selected (though that does seem to fit) because I can look at the clubs listed next to the players name (eg just St Etienne for Platini in 1982, just PSV for Gullit in 1987....)
No rush, I think we'll lock this thread maybe in 1 month or 2, until everything's wrapped up without any rush, so no rush. Especially since I want to put my templates here before I lock it, and I'm not planning to do that right away, So @Jaune Vaughn has plenty of time to vote on all the decades he wants. By the way, you'd have to make a summary of the years 2020s 2010s, 2000s, with the addition of @Jaune Vaughn votes, right? Unless I've missed an update?
Damn, sorry lol I mis-read (it says Milan for 1987 actually)! Anyway, I think probably you were intending to use seasons nevertheless (and IceBlood already said both ways, or a mix like I did myself, was fine for sure, so whichever method you have used is absolutely acceptable - overall I think we still have close to a 50/50 split probably too).
Yes, after the 1870s then I'll be moving to that (and the 1990s update will be including probably an adjustment for Titanlux for the 1999 voting...though potentially I'll do an update beforehand for Jaune Vaughn's votes for that decade too I guess, depending on timings of posts etc).
Yes, because when i use the calendar year it takes two seasons in the Europe, (January is 23-24 & December 24-25) that's why i'm locked in with the seasons

I will get started on updating for @Jaune Vaughn 's votes now actually (I guess you saw IceBlood that Jaune intends to add a 1950s voting list too though, and like I mentioned before for the 1990s we should still be able to add in the effect of Titanlux's confirmed top 5 for 1998/99 before you start to wrap things up).
