This list must be one of the biggest frauds in football history. It's amazing how underrated Scarone is. Some narratives are very wrong. Comparing Scarone with Andrade is as crazy as comparing Pelé with Didi or Messi with Xavi. But let's talk in context, in 1930 Scarone was considered the best player in the World Cup according to the magazine Jornal Dos Sports. I researched the Uruguay 1930 final and was astonished when I found out that Scarone gave 3 assists. Something unique and unrepeatable in the history of the World Cup. In that same year, he scored 10 goals in 11 games for Nacional. It is not irrelevant data to say that Scarone was not CF and that the Uruguayan league averaged fewer goals per game than the current Bundesliga.

Meazza who you put as number 1 said that he did not see anyone better than Scarone.

Interesting info for people to see mate: I think you know already but just for clarification (because you said "Meazza who you put at number 1") the list isn't my own attempt of course but a summary of the votes we've received for that 1930 Ballon d'Or - I haven't made any votes on the 1930s myself, but those that have should be applauded for attempting it for that long ago I think (but I am not saying you are wrong about Scarone or that Cristiano Puskas was wrong about Alex James for example though - it is just harder for people to make decisions for that long ago I think, but your info can be interesting to everyone following the thread I think anyway - if it changes anyone's vote I can of course do a new update accordingly too....).

Having said that though, and I guess his comment on Scarone might have been from the 1930s (I'm not able to read it myself), Meazza did pick an All-Time XI that didn't include him (but Braine who he put at inside right was actually his pick as best player ever even if he later changed his mind to Pele apparently)
SP on Twitter: "In 1966, when Jeno Boskovics interviewed Meazza, Meazza chose him in his all time XI, and what was more surprising is, that it possibly was not even his best position ! https://t.co/MQSA8j5rcU" / Twitter

EDIT - He didn't put Braine at inside right sorry (Eusebio was there but of course played quite a bit later than Scarone; Braine was placed at CF in a 'classic' 2-3-5 type system as the tweet above shows).

It's also possible I misunderstood what is being said re: Meazza and Scarone and that Meazza's comment was in the present tense (not seeing anyone better in 1930, or around that time in general).

I'm not sure, but anyway it's good info for those that can read it and that Jornal Dos Sports page about the World Cup stars from each tournament (with a suggestion that Zico, Rummenigge or Maradona will be the star of 1986 I think?) looks like a good article (with very understandable choices from the 1960s or 1950s even onwards, so feasibly they did make similarly good selections for the earlier years even if it might be more difficult in theory - it's possible they used old reports by their own correspondents to help them to some extent though maybe I guess....).

First of all it is not against you, but against the Bigsoccer forum. They are underestimating Scarone too much, that's like misinforming. Second, Meazza said that Scarone was the best of all when they played together at Ambrosiana (current Internazionale)

Thanks - I gave you a rep because with your two informative posts I think it is well merited (not because I am criticising any choices people made, but I understand what your point of view is and potentially others might chip in with their rationale too I guess - like I say though when we go that far back it is more difficult and I know that people have voted honestly according to their own research, and to be fair Scarone does appear in lists before 1930 itself too so has a decent amount of votes cast for him overall and I guess it's also possible/probable even that people perceive him, and possibly Orth too, as a better/greater player than Morton and/or Pesek but going year by year it's ended with those two having more points for the 1920s as a whole).

EDIT - I see that @CristianoPuskas already made some replies on Twitter after your tweet, mentioning the info about Meazza/Braine himself, but also some very positive quotes from other guys about Scarone....

What is clear is that in 1999 Scarone remained very highly treasured/rated in Uruguay I think (as always it's almost impossible to be sure to what extent he is being over-rated by 'home sources' and to what extent he was just 'lesser known' to other sources, especially so many years later and with lack of footage from his time)

I thank you for this information, regarding Scarone, it could be useful to see what others think and see a debate.
However, I would like to inform you that there are ways to do concerning the votes of each one, everyone must respect the votes of each one, even if we do not agree with the ranking.
You can give your opinion and explain it, but there are ways to formulate sentences that must respect everyone's vote.
As @PDG1978 said, we must already congratulate the people who voted for those years (including me), knowing the difficulty of judging when we advance in time.
Moreover, if I'm not mistaken, you did not vote for those years, right?
Knowing that Scarone has not collected any points and I suppose that you will have put him number 1.
Moreover, if you look closely, Scarone won the World Cup 1930, giving 3 assists in the final, but he scored only 1 goal in the competition, and for many it seemed that he was not in the top 3 of the best players of the competition, whether by Clarin or ESPN Deportes (Jose Nasazzi) or respectively by FIFA (1) Nasazzi, 2) Stabile, 3) Andrade).
Moreover, going back to it, he did not win the Uruguayan championship that year.
It is therefore difficult to mix the collective success and individual performances, especially in these periods.
I'm no one to give my opinion about Scarone (who is still placed 5 times in the top 5 of the Ballon d'Or for the 1920s!) but I just want to say that we should respect others, and exchange more, rather than saying that the panel votes are a fraud. After all, nobody has the science!
    Cheers ;)

I understand that my criticisms were strong, but I find it disrespectful that Scarone is not even in T10. By the way, the narrative that Andrade is overrated for is because of the French media.

Beautiful image. Some time ago I uploaded that image to my Twitter. I agree that there are biases among Uruguayans, but it is normal in any country. For example, I am sure that the Hungarians should rate Puskás higher than Di Stéfano

So don't hesitate to vote, Scarone could easily be in the top 10 then ;)
