I was thinking just in terms of which players were active and starring around the mid 60s, but what would be fair would be to say Pele for example was probably a bit more explosive and a bit more agile too a few years earlier, and Cruyff for example was more strategic, with a better game vision etc later on, so I didn't mean to say their peaks completely overlapped at that time or something (just that they'd contribute to the prominent names in terms of both technical and physical qualities).

I am very happy to see that some imminent members of this forum contribute to the votes!
I sincerely hope that you will also vote for other years, take the time you need. ;)

Moreover, to come back to what I said above, do you think it is more appropriate to consider the vote of the BigSoccer panel or rather BigSoccer + Reddit as the best representative of what the Ballon d'Or can be?

If we look closely, there are fewer notable changes (at least for more recent years) between the "real life" Ballon d'Or winners and those revisited here, with the BigSoccer + Reddit panel, than with the BigSoccer only panel...

Maybe I expressed myself wrong, mate. What I want to say is that there was more talent in the time of Pelé and Maradona. Also in the era of Cristiano and Messi. It's just an opinion. We will not always agree, but it is a pleasure to be part of this forum and share my ideas with you.

Yeah, no problem. Maybe I have doubts about the latter, but like I say it would be a can of worms to discuss/argue further too much lol! I would say that the 90s probably doesn't have any GOAT candidates really anyway, so I guess we'd agree on that (ok some people may have made a case for Ronaldo or Zidane already in the 90s, or rare/minority opinions could put forwards a Laudrup or Baggio very occasionally perhaps, and Van Basten could be considered close to being in the mix...albeit primarily an 80s player anyway, but I think the consensus at the end of the 90s was that older players were the main candidates for the best and/or greatest ever at that point).

Forgive my ignorance, could you be more specific about Redditt, is there a link similar to this one?

The Reddit forum is also one of the reference forums on football/soccer.
Along with BigSoccer, I believe it is ranked the second best football/soccer forum on the internet.
So, I said to myself, why also ask this community to also vote for the historic revisited Ballon d'Or.
A guy did a similar census last year for the Ballon d'Or 2021: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/com...on_per_country_and_one_per/iax2jpr/?context=3

So, I also wanted to do the same, trying to contact one representative per country.
Nevertheless, the task was more complicated than expected, because I had to face the threats of banishments from the moderators (not to send messages to a large number of people at the same time).
Second, out of the 60 people I managed to contact, only about 20 answered me, and mostly only for votes for the years 2020s & 2010s.
Thus, I quickly found myself with a minority of voters, only interested in voting for recent years (of young people?), with only one voter who had the kindness and time to vote until the 1950s.

So, it was an attempt to expand our horizon and our panel of voters.
As we say, the more voters you add, the less the risk of the vote being biased and the votes can be more homogeneous.

So, my question is: in view of the results, is it not better to use the BigSoccer + Reddit votes, as part of a real large-scale vote, like the Ballon d'Or, or rather stay on our own panel of voters (BigSoccer) at the risk of being a little biased according to certain points of view (which I don't criticize, each has one that may be different from the other).

Looking closer, the BigSoccer + Reddit panel oddly matches more the reality of the Ballon d'Or in the real roster, while the results from BigSoccer alone, show chosen ones quite different from reality..

I understand. Although I will go deeper into that community, if as you say, the bloggers are mostly young, it wouldn't make much sense to ask them for their votes from the 90's on down, since most of the time it could be the case that they would just do a "copy-paste" of other lists already made, without giving themselves time to do minimal research. However, for the last decades they could be useful because young people handle a multitude of data on the Internet, which is somewhat difficult for us veterans to locate. I don't know if my opinion is valid, but that's it. On the other hand, if you don't want to complicate things, I suppose that the sample we have is large enough to be extrapolated to a larger population. As is logical, we all have certain reticence in some of the consensus lists, but we have to respect them because they come from people who supposedly understand something about this. In this sense, I cannot resist a comment that will surely offend some people, but thanks to a sufficiently extensive research I have been able to make a decision that will surely be quite unpopular. It refers to Johan Cruyff, who in the 1974-75 season is valued very highly. Not only the ratings of his matches, but also, and above all, the articles and criticisms of a large part of the press, coincide in affirming that his decline with respect to the previous season was enormous, without playing enough (except for a few exceptions) and that he limited himself to drawing fouls and corners and, fundamentally, to constantly arguing against refereeing decisions (he caused some scandal). It is true that his conditions would still be the best, as he was technically superior to all the others and his tactical intelligence was excellent, but he could not or would not show it this season. That's why tomorrow, when I publish my list of the 1974-75 season, most will be surprised and some will get angry, thinking that I have no idea. I limit myself to analyze the data and to expose them with total subjectivity. I have always thought that Cruyff has been one of the greatest geniuses in the history of soccer, with blots in his personal life, with an exacerbated obsession for money, with an exaggeratedly high ego and with a complicated character. As a footballer and also as a coach, I repeat, a genius (so was Best), but the circumstances that accompanied him on many occasions detracted from his performance, and this season was one of them.

Maybe off topic, but does anyone know of any online website that can quickly translate text from an image?

This is a very interesting article of Puskás analyzing Brazilian football in March 1957

In the corner of the second page

"Who is the best player you saw in Brazil?

    Puskas responded enthusiastically:

Didi. This, in my opinion, is the perfect "crack". He is capable of kicking on goal, of making a pass, of dribbling in the smallest possible space on the field. A player who does not need space to execute a move is a "crack". It's a shame that Didi, from what I've seen, put on the personality of a midfielder, when he's a player to do much more than what is required of a midfielder.
Didi is not a midfielder, he is a perfect forward."

It's good to keep the BigSoccer and BigSoccer/Reddit lists separate. How many voters in total? I guess there haven't been that many.
